Somewhat successful first day of third cutting! 🙌🏻
My dad and I thought we were pretty cool running our tractors like they do in the western states today (swipe for video) 🤠
I think it’d be a lot more fun if the fields were bigger and we didn’t have to turn around every 2 minutes though 🤣
We also found an oil leak in the header today.. needless to say we spent a good couple hours fixing that one 👎🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What cutting are you guys on?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Getting to drive what you jump isn't a bad tradeoff!
Fall crops coming soon! Starting lettuce and other cool weather crops under shade protection can help you get an earlier start on your fall season. Under 50% shade, it is routinely 10-15 degrees cooler than the fields. This is crucial for crops like lettuce that will enter thermal dormancy at temps above 90. Our fall is an interesting season because it’s still very warm at Equinox but the day length is dropping every day. So we need a head start to actually get fall crops and then we need to increase our frequency of seeding intervals before late November when everything stops growing. Using tricks to extend the season can help you get more out of it.
Once the picture of industrial fishing is filled in—the 1.4 billion hooks deployed annually on longlines (each with a chunk of fish, squid, or dolphin flesh used as bait); the 1,200 nets, each one 30 miles in length, used by only one fleet to catch only one species; the ability of a single vessel to haul in fifty tons of sea animals in a few minutes—it becomes easier to think of contemporary fishers as factory farmers rather than fisherman. It was so hard to find a brand of orange juice without the non-GMO label. They almost all have it. What’s ironic is that GMOs could be the answer to saving the citrus industry from the devastating citrus greening disease. Why these companies would pay an organization that demonizes transgenic crops when it could be the very technology to save their entire industry is beyond me. Maybe @tropicana_juices has an answer. I’d love to know. .

BROWN SUGAR HAD A BABY THIS AFTERNOON!!!! If you didn’t know already, Brown Sugar is my pet cow, daughter and best friend. I adore her more than anything else in the world. So I was so relived to see she had her baby without any trouble. Also so happy that she had a girl!! Little 101 is now the 7th cow I own. Any name suggestions for her? It needs to be similar to the rest of her family’s names. Her Mum is Brown Sugar (nickname Brownie) and her big sisters and Golden Syrup (nickname Goldie) and Gingerbread Girl (nickname Gingey). So the start of her name has to start with a colour if that makes sense? I can’t wait to spend more time with the baby, and hopefully she stays friendly as she grows up!!! Just in case you were wondering, the calf is 1/2 jersey, 1/2 ayrshire!
