In college, I used a Brother electric typewriter to type my papers. In graduate school (at MTSU) I used a computer with a dot matrix printer. We used Thomas guides as maps and I had my first cellphone 15 years ago. And I did just fine. So will you. #jussayin#genx

Not exactly music so I'll put him up here rather than on my music feed, as he gave me Thoughts. I feel a strange tribal recognition with Marcus Brigstocke. Without having any facts to hand I would put big money on him being almost exactly my age. There's a very specific micro generation born around 1972-4 that I can smell a mile off.
Theresa May negotiating Brexit: "Like Sisyphus in the form of a dung beetle." / "For those under 30, pubic hair is - well, imagine a vagina wearing a fleece. It was big in the 70s... very big..." / "Anyone over 40? How do you explain Morrissey? He's like the ashtray in the arm rest of an aeroplane - seemed like a good thing at the time..." • He is, basically, the ultimate Gen X comedian. Looked as though he was having a whale of a time, truly not giving a shit, using his Lucifer alterego to cross as many lines as possible, to the point of getting a sizeable chunk of the tent singing along to Rolf Harris's Two Little Boys... after making the point that Rolf was an unrepentant sex offender... °
All of which made me think affectionately about my generation. We always thought everything was shit even when, for us, it clearly wasn't. We perfected the art of the shrug+inappropriate joke response. The world has tried to upset us, but even faced with people shouting "80% OF YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES ARE CHILD MOLESTERS!" we still just shrug cynically and reply "Yeah? Bummer. Only 80%?" We are simply incapable of being truly, deeply outraged. And in this Twitterfurious world, for that I love us. Thanks Marcus for not caring enough to speak for us.
Self care… how do you do it? I commit to a monthly massage, no matter how long my to-do list is and it is non-negotiable!
Although I love it, my work can be stressful and I look forward to it all month long. As a business owner – let’s get real . . . as a human BEING, it’s important to take off and recharge. So, what is your favorite form of self care?

Somewhere in 1992, I went to SLF Auditorium with my school mates to watch Henry Rollins and his band Rollins Band. That was a true no frills punk rock gig. Slamdancing and body surfing teens, shouting and fist pumping in a small cramped venue. Bit of technical fault midway and Andrew broke out in a little Hendrix jam. Little did we know that this would be the controversial gig that got Singapore banning any form of slamdancing and imposing a safety cash deposit from all concert organizers - no thanks to The New Paper who ran a front cover stating "This is happening in Singapore - Will You Let Your Kid Do This?". As youths, we were naturally defiant and that did not stop us from stage diving, body surfing and moshing at the local gigs. Music ignites a form of self-expression - and no one should ever tell you what you can or cannot do. #rollinsband#henryrollins#1992#partanimalpartmachine#vintageclothing#vintagetee#searchanddestroy#punkrock#music#bandtee#singapore#bands#punk#genx
Just go with it. My general playlist is a collection of songs I like and picked out along the way. They reach across a lot genres and periods of my life. I have others. Mainly ones that invoke a feeling. Cruzin’ Los Angeles is a collection of songs that give me a sense of nostalgia & definitely remind me of periods of my past. I’ve been in LA my whole life, so there’s definitely some gangsta rap & 90s alternative. They bring me back to a period of my life. I have another called OhILoveThatSongDancing. Contains songs where when I hear the first couple of notes I say to myself, “oh, I LOVE that song!” then immediately get an urge to dance. Other than those two I have my general playlist with the rest of my songs. There’s no meaning to this playlist. It’s just called add, as in I will eventually add these to a playlist. I love the songs in here. I purge constantly and add new songs. Right now, I’m really into latin music. It evolved from reggaeton, to Spanish rock, to old Mexican music, to now alternative softer latin music. There’s 2 ladies I’ve been listening to lately. Natalia Lafourcade and Julieta Venegas. Sometimes I’m in a latin mood but I don’t think it is time to make a latin playlist just yet. I put a lot of thought into a playlist. Don’t want to invest time into it just to get tired of it and toss it. It’s a waste of time. But these songs still remain in the add playlist. So I won’t get a consistent set of latin songs. I will have to appreciate them, especially the just added songs, as they come. But then I realized something. The satisfaction you get when you seek stimulation vs the satisfaction you get when the unexpected happens and you are pleasantly surprised. I figured the latter is so much more gratifying. There are a lot of benefits by just going with it. Chances of being pleasantly surprised are enhanced. Life is very satisfying when you limit your expectations. I bought a papaya for the first time. Cut it open & it smelled bad. I thought it was rotten but the cashier told me that’s how it’s supposed to smell when I returned it. So I kept it and went with it. You never know, the chances you end up taking may end up surpassing and delighting you
Millennials, baby boomers, Gen Z, and Gen X all have specific preferences when it comes to brands. 💰📦🍪💻🛒
A Morning Consult study asked thousands of adults across the US to rate different brands based on favorability, trust, community impact, and how likely they would be to recommend the brand to others. They interviewed 400,000 adults across the US, asking an average of 11,000 people to rate over 1,900 companies.
While some brands, like Google, proved popular across generations, others like Oreo and UPS are more closely linked to specific demographics.
Born before September 4th, 1998? Congratulations!! You are older than Google too. Trust me, I googled it. #ElArroyoSign#ElArroyoATX

Happy 30th anniversary 1st batch, Smokey Mountain. Our 1st day of recording: July 27, 1989. I was so excited, but was delayed because a grand celebration was happening and I couldn't access edsa from where i lived. I had to circumnavigate novaliches, and ended up in Monumento. Smooth sailing na all the way to Torres St. in Mandaluyong.
What was the grand celebration? And what was in Torres Street?
