Travel Tip: When traveling to a big city, focus on just one or two sections and focus your time there. Rather than rushing around the city, you'll be able to soak up the experience. 🇲🇽🌽🌶️🇲🇽🌽🌶️🇲🇽🌽🌶️🇲🇽🌽🌶️ The Zocalo it's the main historic district of Mexico City. It's the home of the Aztec Templo Mayor and the Spanish Cathedral. These Aztec temples pre-date Columbus.
Today's street scene reflects the history: Aztec dancers and costumes. Roasted 🌽 with 🌶️ and lime. A massive corn chips with beans, nopales, cilantro, salsa.
The night took me to the modern Zona Rosa, where the LGBTQ scene is popping. Nightclubs, drag queens, Sopa with zucchini squash blossoms and sopes with mushrooms. And always, a million salsas.
So much to enjoy... 🇲🇽🌽🌶️🇲🇽🌽🌶️🇲🇽🌽🌶️🇲🇽🌽🌶️ Who can tell me the name for the giant corn chip thing?
Xochimilco, It lies at 7,461 feet (2,274 metres) above sea level in the Valley of México, on Lake Xochimilco. The name Xochimilco is a combination of the Nahuatl words xochitl and milli and means “where the flowers grow.” Built on the site of a pre-Columbian town, Xochimilco is famous for its chinampas (floating gardens).
Xochimilco is a popular weekend outing for thousands of Mexicans and tourists, who visit the area in colourful trajineras (flat-bottomed boats).
In 1987 Xochimilco was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Self-Portrait with Monkey 🐒♥️
There is not Mexico without Frida Kahlo, and our homes couldn’t be the exception. 🎨 Replete with symbolism, her work is a window to the story of her life just as “Self-Portrait with Monkey” painted in 1940 showing one of her loved spider monkeys called Fulang Chang.
