We are a family of five: a doctor, an engineer, and three daughters. The world sees me as successful, Brent as brilliant and handsome, Rose as the best of us both, and the two littles as adorably adopted. While these are truths, we are so much more than this capsule of singular roles.
We are five people looking to change the world, and hoping to evolve in the process. We want to take a step back from the ordinary to seek the extraordinary. We seek to view the world from different perspectives, through five pairs of lenses.
This trip isn’t about how the world sees us, but rather, how we see the world and how we can be our best selves in the difference we make.
We will spend 2020 traveling the globe, growing as a unit of one as well as five individuals. We would love to have you follow us along our journey as we learn lessons in love, patience, acceptance, self-improvement, and service to others. We will focus on women’s health, women’s rights, environmental injustice, and engineering efforts as they apply to conservation and sanitation.
In our travels, we will always give more than we take. We will choose kindness every time. We feel sure we will learn more about each other than we even thought possible. Follow our journey and learn with us!

Glacier Bay is a dream. I thought it might be crowded with cruise ships, but these two are the only other boats i saw in the park. Our boat has 56 passengers, so we were able to kayak and hike in arms of the park inaccessible to the two big ships. It is a fantastically beautiful and special place. #glacierbay#alaska#insidepassage#adventuretravel#uncruise#glacier
I thought about catching up on sleep today but, thankfully, changed my mind and got back on the right track.

Fountain Paint Pot: Making Mud
https://modfam.global/ “This vat of bubbling mud contains the perfect mix of ingredients to create mudpots: heat, gases, water, volcanic rock, minerals, acid, and even living microorganisms! Heat-loving ‘thermophiles’ consume some of the gases and help convert them into sulfuric acid. The acid breaks down rock to form clay – clay that mixes with water in mudpots.” – Interpretive Sign at Fountain Paint Pot, Yellowstone National Park

In southern France you can grape stomp the old-fashioned way, in a huge oak barrel like this, with a view of Mount Sainte Victoire! Who’s in?
Lisbon’s tile culture makes a simple stroll down the street into a sort of history riddle, with each building’s facade being tiled according to its original occupants’ social status and occupation. Rare Finds sent this family first to the tile museum, and then on their tile scavenger hunt through town.

Is cold water scuba diving on your BucketList ?
Here in the Pacific Northwest, believe it or not, scuba diving is a very popular outdoor activity. Despite water temperature being 50C, diving in the PNW is one of the best places in the world !
The famous Jean Cousteau described PNW diving as "cold but colorful". Check out the video in our latest blog post about this unique adventure ( www.ExtraHyperActive.com )

The Vitim Bridge, definitely one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever ridden! Not because it was particularly hard but there was a very small margin for error.
It bridge is clad with rotting wooden planks, random broken metal plates and nails. It’s around 570 meters long and about 16 metres above the water. It wasn’t that narrow but there’s a thick black pipe running down the centre, which I wouldn’t of wanted to cross over at this height!
I still get heart palpitations thinking about it, but feel the need to ride it again as soon as possible?! 🤷🏻♀️🤣

This photo made me feel very emotional.
I don’t know if it’s being in this vastness, surrounded by the sound of silence that is at times interrupted by the sound of a rock falling or crevasse breaking to remind you that your life here is in your own hands. You learn how to take responsibility for your life and the life of the person roped up to you. It’s hard waking up early and being cold and so very tired. But then you take your eyes off your feet and look around and it all makes sense. #LifeHappensOutdoors#Mountaineering#AiguilleduTour#Alpinism
