Brookfarm know their macadamias and we love their new premium offering of oven roasted macadamias covered in pink lake salt.
Pink Lake salt is sustainably harvested in Victoria. The lake is fed by natural inland salt aquifers and is removed by hand when it dries out in the summer revealing a pink, salty landscape. Interestingly, Australia is the largest exporter of salt in the world.
Back to @brookfarm... they lightly dry roast the macadamias with macadamia oil and add a sprinkle of Pink Lake salt creating a healthy snack to enjoy. Yay! . . . . .
Cookie dough energy balls 🍪
2 cups old fashioned oats
½ cup nut butter
¼ cup mini chocolate chips
¼ tsp salt
½ tsp vanilla
½ cup honey
¼ cup unsweetened coconut flakes
¼ cup coconut/ almond or cashew milk •
Recipe: Put the old fashioned oats and coconut in a blender or food processor. Make sure to put these in a food processor or blender and they are nice and thin. Slowly add the nut butter and honey until you get a thick dough. Add the milk and vanilla until you see the consistency sticking together. Lastly sprinkle the batter with salt and chocolate chips! #cookiedoughenergyballs#proteinballs#afternoonsnack#healthysnack
afternoon snack #dEats : snack mix made up of mixed toasted nuts (walnuts, pecans, cashews, almonds), dried mango, sunflower seeds, chocolate chips, and to top it off, @annieshomegrown birthday cake bunnies! This is a very challenging snack for me, as nuts are a fear food and I’ve really challenged myself today by incorporating them into almost every meal, but they are so good for me and provide so many benefits. Adding something fun to this mix like the bunnies is something I never would do in the past because they are just kind of silly and “unnecessary” but they are so cute and cheer me up. Does anyone else ever get into this cycle where you run out of tortilla chips, but you still have salsa, so you buy more chips. Then you run out of salsa, but you still have chips so you buy more salsa. And so forth? lol I’m forever eating chips and salsa 🙈

Have you had your #afternoonsnack yet?
Some of you have been asking what my #nutritionregimen consists of recently. And one of the areas I know is a challenge for everyone on any given day is snacking. ⠀⠀
There are two issues with snacking:
1️⃣Eating because you’re actually hungry
2️⃣Eating because you are bored
These are big issues for most folks as a majority of us work in sedentary/ screen jobs with little chance to move around. And more often than not, offices do not provide healthy snacks for their employees.
Pictured above are a few my go-tos and I ration out the portions accordingly. These items also keep fairly well, even in a desk drawer.
🔵 Enlightened Broad Beans 100 calorie packs - I eat 1 or 2 of these. ⠀⠀
🔵 Quest Bars (available in a variety of flavors) - these are usually between 180-200 calories per bar and they are very filling. I try limit to 1 or 2 during work hours.
🔵 Unsweetened applesauce - 1/2 a cup is 50 calories. I am liberal with portions of this but I find 2 cups to be more than satiating. ⠀⠀
🔵 Detour Lean Muscle Bites or bars - these would be more for if I have a SERIOUS sweet craving - the bites are 80 cals but the bars pictured here are 200-210 cal a piece. More than one will do the trick.
🔵 Flavored almonds- these are always good. Often they satisfy any hunger craving I have. A number of companies make these most notably blue diamond, Legendary foods and optimum nutrition. the latter of which is definitely great for when you have sugar cravings.
With all this being said I should be clear about something. The key to all nutrition is knowing two things
🔵 What’s the goal you are trying to achieve?
🔵 What to eat to achieve that goal?
Snacking should be used to balance other meals as a part of a nutrition strategy. In other words know the difference between eating with purpose and function and eating because it’s sitting right in front of you.
