This high relief features a lion, striding to the right. The piece is framed at the top and both sides with a small border and at the bottom with a broad ledge. Only the head and right front paw are executed in some detail; the body is rendered quite superficially. The relief may have been left unfinished. Probably, the lion represents the god Miysis, corroborated by the provenance (Tell el-Moqdam/Leontopolis).
The relief is either a sculptor's model or a votive offering.
Budapest, our stunning capital was built upon the ruins of the Romans.
What the hell the Romans did here?
Western Hungary became North-Eastern part of the Empire for almost 300 years from 2nd century AD. The capital of Pannonia Province called Aquincum located in today Óbuda / Old Buda (Northwestern edge of the capital). This province and Aquincum played a very important defending role. The natural border was the Danube - the wild barbaric lands started from the opposite part of the river. These tribes meant a huge attack for the Romans so with having Pannonia lands under their controll they could avoid a possible attack easily.
Next to the continously stationing Roman troops, merchants, handcrafters, artists and civilians lived here relatively peace thanks to strengh of the world's most sucessful troops at that time.
Untill today we are finding new archeological remnants underneath knowing more and more the citizens of Aquincum, while lot of the former buildings remained visible on the surface including amphitheatres, private villas, aquaducts and other beauties. 💧🏛🏠⛲
The biggest exhibition area is in Budapest now the Aquincum Museum. #budapest#romanruins#aquincum#likeinrome#obuda#wondering_budapest#whatshere#hungary#travelgram#archeological#ancient#ig_hungary#ig_budapest
I'm really excited to start sharing some of the images from my most recent road trip email@example.com
This is a place I've been meaning to return to for years. It's The Bass Pro Shops at The Memphis Pyramid and it's basically Disney World for people love Duck Decoys and compound bows. It also happens to be the 11th tallest pyramid in the world (The Luxor in Vegas is #5 ). Check out the rest of "The Ancient World in America" @ www.rayewing.com #America#architecture#replica#ancient

The Primeval Forest National Park is a geological and botanical gem, tucked away in the bustling, commercial island of Nassau. The forest is filled with an array of native plants, mushrooms, ferns, and even marine fossils. However, the star attraction is the sinkholes. The impressive limestone caverns, some of which are up to 50 feet long and 30 feet deep, are scattered throughout the park. Main features in the park are easily accessed via a series of boardwalks, steps, and bridges. The ancient hardwood forest, which is largely untouched by humans, is one of the best preserved plots of old-growth woodland on the island. #exploreyourpark
The Mummy of Hatshepsut was found by Howard Carter in KV60, in the Valley of the Kings. While assembling all unidentified mummies with their right arms placed across their chests a royal posture for the Egyptian Mummy Project, some were studied with a CT-scan machine.
At the same time a canopic box from the Deir el-Bahari cachette (“DB320”) that was inscribed for Hatshepsut and contained her liver was also scanned. There was also a tooth inside, a molar with a root; and when examined it was found that it fitted exactly into the mouth of one of the royal women.
After analysis of Hatshepsut’s mummy, it was concluded that she had died at about the age of fifty, that she had been obese, and that she had diabetes and cancer. The box that contained the tooth is also on display near the mummy.
