Leave the ego at the door. No point swinging a heavey weight quickly with bad form. That's a fast track to an injury.
Instead, concentrate on the muscle group you're working. Slow to eccentric part of the rep to ensure maximum tension on the muscles. This makes a lighter weight feel heavier, and once the weight gets comfortable or easy, up the weight whilst maintaining this tempo.
