Sometimes we feel so good and joyful, so ‘Yeah, baby!’ and then the next moment something suddenly changes. We suddenly begin to feel ill at ease, a little scared for no apparent reason, a little uncomfortable to be so happy. There are some theorists who say that this is the residue left in our nervous system by the lifestyle of ancient humans who had to be constantly aware of many dangers in order to survive. They had to watch out for tigers. Those who were better at it survived and passed down their vigilant genes to us. So now we ourselves are constantly watching out for tigers even when we are with our beloved by the pool, taking a bubble bath, just got promoted or finally walked to that mountain top we always wanted to reach. We look for danger and since we don’t find any in our immediate surrounding we begin scanning through our past and future, looking for what could be wrong there. We are so busy looking for tigers that we don’t notice one tiger actually eating us up. It’s the tigers of anxiety who devours our joy and swallows our happiness (and you know what it turns into as a result). Should we chase this tiger away? Should we try to kill it? We all know it is quite impossible. The tiger always comes back. However what we can do is acknowledge the hungry tiger, step out of the its mouth and give it something to chew on. Give your tiger some crayons and let it draw a machine that turns garbage into fuel. Give it a microphone and let it speak for the world peace. Let your tiger use his sharp teeth to bite through any problem and come out with a new version of what is possible. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Life is certainly not a continuous stream of smiling IG posts. All the more precious, then, to celebrate these moments that I feel so fortunate to have. In this case, a casual dinner Friday evening on a friend’s patio, when Isaac and I surprised everyone by dressing beautifully just for the pleasure of it. I love this dress.
A subtler shot of some of the flowers that graced the side of the trail for us over the last week. Always framed by mountains. Always accented by lake waters. Always in my memory.

Day 2100 of my #IChooseBeauty journey!!! 2100 days of posting a picture of beauty every day here on @Instagram. Thanks to all of you for your support throughout this project.
In case you don’t know the story... It all started as a challenge to myself in November 2013 to keep from slipping back into a deep depression I had been struggling with for a few years. It turned into my life preserver. And when I realized what a difference it made on my mood, I just kept going.
It's based on Positive Psychology research that finds people who notice and appreciate beauty are more likely to have joy and meaning in everyday life.
It's not always easy to find something of beauty. I've had plenty of tough days when nothing seemed beautiful but I have learned to make my own beauty and push myself to find something. And honestly, those are the days it helps the most to find that one good thing.
Throughout the years, many of you have shared your own #IChooseBeauty pics, and I love seeing them every day. They're proof that happiness is right in front of us, all around us. We just have to choose to see it. 👀
