John Piper with @desiringgod was the first teacher I heard speak on the concept on Christian Hedonism. The words seem odd together, but if you read the Bible, you'll find that you are meant to pursue pleasure. God's word and the Holy Spirit help us follow the example of Jesus in a healthy pursuit of pleasure. Outside of God, pleasures fail us, but within the context of His word and the life He has for us, we will find ourselves satisfied and sustained in greater joy as we walk through parts of our lives where others may fail to find joy or peace. If what you desire is good and it is of infinite quantity, it is good to pursue it, for your gaining of it will not require someone else's lack. This is why we should passionately seek joy, peace, and wisdom that comes from the Lord. : The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

The Abyss of Love: it was through the Abyss of Love creation was manifested through the Word, and the same Abyss of Love motivated the kenosis and incarnation of that Word, Jesus Christ our Lord. God is love: Christ is love, and it is truly an unfathomable abyss, and in it, one dies and is baptized. One is purified as by clean fire through the abyss of love. As C.G. Jung wrote in The Red Book, "God is love - but love can be terrible": yes, a terrible purifying love because God is a consuming fire. God is fiery love, the vehement flame, the love many waters cannot quench and is as strong as Sheol - this is the love that made God into man, and humanity into God, able to be unified with the energies of the Godhead.

Daily Devotion: More Than Hacks
The Bible in One Year: Psalms 110–112; 1 Corinthians 5
Today's Bible Reading: Psalm 111
He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever—holy and awesome is his name. Psalm 111:9
I recently found a “hack” (a clever solution to a tricky problem) when one of my grandchildren warmed her toy rabbit on our fireplace glass. The resulting globs of fake bunny fur weren’t pretty, but a fireplace expert provided a great hack—a tip for how to make the glass look like new. It worked, and now we no longer allow stuffed animals near the fireplace!
I bring up hacks because sometimes we can view Scripture as a collection of hacks—tips to make life easier. While it’s true that the Bible has much to say about how to live a Christ-honoring new life, that’s not the only purpose of the Book. What Scripture provides for us is a solution for mankind’s greatest need: rescue from sin and eternal separation from God.
From the promise of salvation in Genesis 3:15 all the way to the true hope of a new heaven and new earth (Revelation 21:1–2), the Bible explains that God has an eternal plan for rescuing us from our sin and allowing us to enjoy fellowship with Him. In every story and every suggestion for how to live, the Bible is pointing us to Jesus—the only One who can solve our biggest problem.
When we open God’s Book, may we remember that we’re looking for Jesus, the rescue He offers, and how to live as His children. He’s provided the greatest solution of all!
How has Jesus and His promise to rescue those who believe in Him touched your heart and life? Why is it vital to see that the Bible consistently points to Christ?
Father, thank You for the salvation You provided through Jesus. Help me to honor You by keeping focused on our Savior and His amazing love for me.

When Christ is our hope and strength, we have every reason to keep going. ⠀
God, in His faithfulness, has given us enough reason to believe that anything we face can be overcome, because He is the one going before us and He cannot fail.⠀
When we feel like we're running out, we're in the perfect position to have a run in with Jesus and be fueled by His grace. Some of the holiest moments are when God’s presence is invited in—the simple, daily movements where He meets our weaknesses.⠀
As you go into the day and into the week, meditate on this: “Where does my strength come from? Where does my victory come from?”
