Peleg Franklin Brownell "The Beach, St Kitts", 1913⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In an opposite take on ladies in white on the beach, this beautiful piece by Peleg Franklin Brownell shows the women of St. Kitts gathering their baskets to pick up fish at the waterline. Other women siting on the beach cook food and sell pottery. Their white clothing is picked up again by the cresting waves and the bright white sails of the boats in the distance. Meanwhile, storm clouds hide the mountain across the bay.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An influential teacher and headmaster of the Ottawa School of Art from 1887 to 1900, Brownell first visited the Caribbean around 1911, and was at once enchanted by its brilliant light. There, he painted some of the finest interpretations of local life to appear in Canadian art. Rapid, frank, truthful, touched with artistic idealization but not transformed by it, his Caribbean works are unconventional and carry a gem-like sparkle.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Summer is in full swing and most of the time the sun is out! I’ve had quite a few special orders this year for holiday cottages and beach houses, and this was one of my most fun commissions, on its way to the US.
Talk at the theatre. I have been a press office for the theatre for two years, both in the summer and winter seasons.
Theatres changed as the seasons changed and I followed the region's theatre circuit all year round.
In summer, the theaters of ancient Rome by the sea. The magic of the actors, of the moonlight and of the waves of the sea and when the comedy ended, we went to bathe with the warm, calm sea and the moon that illuminated us.
In winter, in the actors' dressing rooms, to watch their make-up, to talk about their career, to learn many interesting things.
I met my husband at the theatre.
I was the press office for a play by Pinter and he, the future husband, was there to do a journalistic service for television.
Theatre for me is always magic, it is always interesting how society evolves in the interpretation of ancient works or contemporary plays.
But summer theatre is the best memory. We have many ancient theatres where magic repeats itself every year.
And I have a world full of magnificent theatres.
Whenever I can, I always go to the theater, and you?
