The gardens here are still very much a work in progress. There are no full time gardeners, there isn’t really a plan, just a love of roses, hydrangea, lavender, dahlias and herbaceous perennials.
Formal gardens aren’t my style - I love them to look at, but I have neither time, not patience for clipping box hedges into shapes. They wouldn’t suit this house. Her heart is too wild and country-girl-like.
I want to surround her with flowers and herbs instead, so that when you wander around you’re hit by different scents, beautiful colours and borders full of flowers.
I’m an amateur gardener at best. My mum arrives and scans the borders. Soon she is on her knees pulling up weeds, dead heading flowers and giving my dad a list of things he needs to strim, mow and tidy. They are in charge really. I just do as I’m told.
More time for gardening is high up on my list right now. I have been meaning to re-tie and support the tomatoes in the potager for two weeks but they are still staggering under the weight of their fruits. We’re eating plenty, picking them daily, that fresh green smell of tomato vines filling our noses as we pick, the leaves staining our skin green.
One bonus of my lack of time for gardening is that there are plenty of overgrown areas about the place. Brambles arch over the drive, full of fruit for crumbles, jams and jellies. If you’re coming to stay feel free to go for a forage, there’s no way we can eat them all. The figs are free to a good home too because we won’t be able to keep up with the glut that is promised.
SWEET POTATO DOG CHEWS 🍠 🐾
Inexpensive & healthy dogs treats! Here’s how you do it —>
[Swipe to see pictures corresponding with the steps 👍🏼]
1. Cut sweet potatoes in half, then slice into 1/4 cm thick pieces!
LIFE HACK # 1: use a SHARP knife or you will probably cut yourself 🔪
LIFE HACK # 2: get the taters wet and put them in the microwave for 1-2 minutes (depending on their size) - it will make them easier to cut. You’re welcome 😉
2. OPTIONAL STEP: Boil some water while you’re slicing. Blanch the slices of sweet potato by boiling them for approximately 4 minutes and then immediately submerging in an ice bath until cooled. This helps them keep their pretty orange color (which I realize is unnecessary for dog treats but...🤷🏻♀️)
3. Arrange on dehydrator trays so they aren’t touching each other! Potatoes need personal space too!!
4. Dehydrate at 125°F for 8-10 hours. *Temperature and time may vary based on dehydrator*
- I did 8 hours, then put a handful of the slices that weren’t leathery yet back in for another 1.5 hours!
5. MOST IMPORTANT STEP: Make sure you have a ridiculously adorable supervisor to eat the scraps for you! NO WASTE ♻️

Today I went on a run and that may not seem like a big deal, but it was for me. I work crazy hours so I usually lay in bed for a few hours before work and I tell myself it’s okay to be lazy for a bit because I “deserve” it.
As I was getting ready for the run my dad said “why aren’t you sleeping before work?” and I thought eh I could be...but I should really try to get my workout in. Well after being able to get outside, be alone, and really think about it I realized that when I’m letting myself just lay in bed...I’m telling myself I “deserve” to put my goals on hold.
Over the last few months there have been a lot of changes in my life. Some good - some bad, but all important and I really want to start using my time wisely to appreciate the changes and move forward. Don’t get me wrong... there will still be days where I press “Yes” about 6 times when Netflix asks me if I’m still watching... but they will be less frequent and all of the other time will be spent being a lot more intentional.
Okay if you’re still reading I’m almost done but I have to share this: When I was on my run I saw my neighbor’s horses and I couldn’t walk by them without shouting hi at them.... yeah...so... I was talking to the horses and didn’t realize my neighbor was standing on their porch watching me yell at their horses from across the street! Lol okay that’s really it. Have a good night ✌🏻

Izzy ❤️ Pretty sure she’s a dog in a cow’s body. She follows me around and when I call her she “moos” at me from across the pasture. 😂💗 She loves to be petted and loved on!
Pretty blueberry pie, right? Notice the diplomas on top. 🎓🎓 I made it for my son's and his girlfriend's graduation. EPIC fail though. LOL It tasted good, but it literally just crumbled apart! Crust and filling...blueberries just rolling about on our plates in all directions. 😂😂 Ummm, so much for that online recipe. 💙 I am now on a quest for the perfect blueberry pie! I will not turn back. Would love to know your favorite tips or recipes if willing to share. The last blueberry pie I made was drowning in juice and much too soggy. I need to get this right!!! Help!
I went to several thrift stores last weekend for the first time in awhile, and it reminded me that I need to get back to doing that. I scored that hanging basket, a ceramic planter (I also bought some new plant babies 🌿), and a cool chalkboard for the boys’ room. I just love the hunt and being able to find cool, unique pieces for our home that add a layer of warmth. Are you a thrifter? Or nah? And if you are, did you grow up thrifting?
