**Grandpatents instalment no.6**
Once grandad passed his driving test, Caravan parks were the holidays for the next couple of years, down near Bournmouth. Does anyone remember the shell house in Southbourne? Grandma and Grandad took their children there every time they were in the area. Even MY sister remembers being taken there by our mum. Alas it is no more 😭
The last caravan was somewhat stinky so a flat was booked for the next year. Well this was a disaster. They went again with Grandma’s brother, wife and mother and it was this that saw them through the week.
On arrival they found that the beds were bowed in the middle, the pillows were like rock, the kitchen utensils were almost non existent. The cherry on the cake was when Grandma’s brother went to bed and the whole thing collapsed 😂
Much fun was had during the daytime on the beach and one early morning walk revealed a Jaguar car crashed on the beach. Grandma’s brother thought he recognised the car, turns out it was someone he knew who had take a lady friend for an illicit weekend away... Rumbled! 🙊🙊
On the final day of the holiday Grandma was keeping watch out the window and saw the bread delivery van driving along the road with its back door open and the bread falling out 🥖 Guess who dashed out to pick it all up? Yep, my thrifty grandma! That bread would have kept them going for days and who knows, maybe next year they would be able to upgrade to a place there the beds didn’t collapse! 🤦🏻♀️
The next year they decided to treat themselves to an actual hotel! Shame for them they both were struck down by chicken pox 🐓 They weren’t the luckiest travellers in the world...
