Today’s Monday Motivation is brought to you courtesy the next generation.
My 11 year old cousin has his eyes on a new smartphone 📱 He was excitedly telling that he’ll do chores every day, save birthday money & his allowance. He’s worked out that he can buy his phone in 3 months!
He tells his plan to anyone who listens & if you stick around longer you’ll hear all the features, why it’s better than an iPhone & see photos.
My other cousin who’s 8 is saving up for a PlayStation. He doesn’t get money for chores so has to rely on birthday money & occasional funds from loving grandparents. We talked about asking his uncle to sell his PlaySatation as it’ll be cheaper second hand, and means he can get it faster, or of waiting for the sales so that he can get a couple games thrown in too.
A friend asked me what my take on black tax is a while ago (I have my thoughts) and yesterday I had a conversation with a dear friend about that same topic. Today here we are; BLACK TAX.
I remember my first paycheck I think it was R 460 back in 1993 or 1994. I did some voice over work at the NBC. The money came and my grandmother took her portion and the rest was send to my mom. I cant remember lying on the bed rolling in it. LOL. I had paid my taxes for being raised in my family. And for some of us we will pay those taxes till the day we die.
This payments are to your parents, the aunty next door who baby sat, your aunt just because she is related to your mom and cousins cause they feel entitled and also cause that one December you spend the holiday at thier house.
This phenomenon has been the cause of many anxiety, stress and suicide over the years. People cant have those uncomfortable "no" conversations with family members and we suffer in silence. We dont have to.
We are the generation that wants to build generational wealth and create a culture of saving. We can't do this if our salary is send off to family members who sometimes dont NEED the money they just want it cause you earn it and you OWE them. (Do I really owe you Aunty who last saw me when I was 3 years old)
I'm not saying dont help the family out, what I am saying is have that conversation; why do you need the money? Cant we include it into my next budget? Is this something you need? You have a life too;
In a scenario where you have a bond, child at school, car payment, living expenses and some debt lingering. How do you make provision without setting yourself back?
You are not a bad person for saying no.
Black Tax should not be a burden it shouldn't be the reason you are loaning money from your friend.
Let's have those conversations. Let's talk about those things people dont want to hear. MONEY, NO, BUDGET and such.
We can't be paying PAYE, VAT and also BTAX.
How do we survive?
Happy Monday my debt smashers. Also I would like to send a s/o to a dear friend who recently climbed on the Debt diet with me.
300 000.00 is NOTHING! You can do it ❤
Happy Monday💖 I'm really not looking forward to the tail end of this week. my daughter goes on her first holiday abroad with her dad (she's only 6) and we haven't been away from each other for a week before 😢 I know she's going to have the most amazing experience but I have this horrible knot in the pit of my stomach that won't go away. Luckily I have to go to work to finish the last week of my cleaning job before I move onto my new role the following week 😁.
This week I'm going to really try and focus on no spend days and completing as many surveys as I can. We haven't got much planned this week apart from a few play dates. I want to go and buy some new books as I haven't done this in months and I feel it really helps me relax.
What plans and goals do you have for this week?💖 #ukdebtfree#debtfreechallenge#nospendchallange#debtfreecommunity#debtfreecommunityuk#frugalliving#babysteps
I am a huge fan of asking for more money when you negotiate, and knowing what you are worth. If you know you are worth more — OWN IT.
Negotiation is just talking. Nervous sweaty talking but if you practice the words: “I have done XYZ for this year which has benefited the company in ABC amount of dollars/benefits, and I feel that deserves some consideration. I would like a raise.”, it will flow off your tongue.
Go in there prepared, notes on what you have done that year, and lay them all out in a stacked row, then sit back and wait for an answer. Let silence be your friend.
ASK for it.
If they try to brush you off to the next review or quarter, have a firm promise from them to review it and be part of your next review if they are unable to do it now.
To get an idea of what you are worth, be open to recruiters, sniff around for salary ranges for these potential jobs, and ask trusted colleagues.
Also, it is not just about money. If I were an employee I would ask for more vacation and/or personal days, or telecommuting days.
Six eBay sales from the weekend.
Ironically 2 of the items I bought to try something new last week, sold.

This is my latest Bunch freebie 😊
Who else is part of the Woolworths Bunch community?
If you're not, head to their website to register! It takes a while to be accepted but it's worth it for the freebies 😊
We act as an intermediary between the debtors and creditors and negotiate a resolution helping you to avoid bankruptcy and providing a commercial return to the creditor. Conversely, you may decide that you would like to take advantage of a lower variable rate if you can accept the risk that rates may rise in future. Some of the benefits of a variable rate are that you can utilise an offset account, incorporate a redraw facility or make extra payments to your mortgage without penalty.
This is our first home being build for us. Moving date estimate is January 2020. However with my husband getting laid off recently, we are not sure if we can be able to close on it when time comes. J is actively looking for job. He had one interview last Friday and another one , this coming Tuesday. I truly hope that he get an offer soon. 🤞🏻
UNBUDGETED PURCHSE ALERT~ We only have 2 bed sheets and 3 doona covers in our house at any given time so when one is old or worn out it is replaced. One of our sheets is so worn and stretched that it was actually uncomfortable to sleep without fixing every few hours. My partner and I are sick at the moment so our washing pile is larger than my motivation to do it... So we had no clean second sheet. Idk about the quality of this make do bed sheet that was about $40 at our Country Target but it is going to have to do until we have the time to travel 2 hours to a decent shopping center. Fingers crossed it isn't trash. 😪
I called in sick today because I have a cold and my head felt like it was going to explode. I felt so bloody guilty like I was letting down the team and my students. It is not a nice feeling that is for sure. Does anyone else feel guilty when they call in sick?
This morning I accepted a new role with a new organisation 🎉 unfortunately, it came with a pay cut... -
At the beginning of July I set off on my search for a new job. I went to 5 interviews, and received three offers. I ended up taking the one that offered the lowest amount. Why? -
Firstly, it's one of the best organisations to work for! It's like the golden ticket of my industry 😅 Secondly, my new manager and I got along great, and I think will be a great mentor. Thirdly, it has less responsibility... I am beyond burnt out. More than once was I ready to quit my job, get back on a plane to Perth, and stay in bed for the rest of my life. I've been burnt out for nearly a year and I just need a break. I am willing to accept a lower role in order to focus on helping myself and getting back to a place where I'm no longer frightened of going to work, and spending the weekends miserable. -
Money isn't everything. I'm happy to be able to move away from my current workplace and I'm so glad to be a part of this organisation!
What a crazy weekend.
I worked overtime Saturday night, working an 18hour shift - looking forward to pay day now 💵 and backed it up returning to work after my 8hour break. 😴
Today is my only day off before a 4 day week (the challenges of shift work). So I tried to make today 'normal' (I mean what is normal?!). I've done all the washing, made beds, vacuumed, hit the gym, done the groceries and now just taking 5minutes to drink a protein shake post workout.
I think it's time for a coffee now, all the caffeine to help me fold my washing, meal prep and give me strength for the afternoon pick up to bedtime routine. 💪
Today sweet friends of ours invited us to go to Universal studios with them for Christmas break. They are taking their kiddos and have a time share there. We would only need to pay for our airfare, park tickets and food. They have room in their time share for us to stay with them. Hubby and kiddos really want to go. I do too, but we are in the midst of #bs6 , working on paying off our house. And we don't have this trip in our budget. We plan on going there in about 2 years when we pay off our house. We would like to go with them because we know it would be a blast, but I would have to use our savings for it. I already have earmarked money for the Disneyland trip in spring with my oldest for her school trip. I'm really on the fence with this. What do you think? Yay or nay?
I purchased this stool, not in the budget (horror), and brand new (blasphemy). But I’m okay with it. Little boy is obsessed with “helping” at the moment and our dining chairs are being pulled pillar to post by him “helping”. This he can lift safely, climb onto safely, and help until he decides doing the dishes or cleaning our teeth isn’t so fun. $19 well spent.

This journey is not an easy one, but it’s worth it in the end. After talking at each other my husband and I started to hear each other out, leading to better decisions. We both agreed we need to discuss more about our budgets, to be on the same page. We also agreed to cut up his only credit card, out of sight out of mind. Some other money decisions were made as well. The point of this post is to understand if you are in a relationship and decided to start this debt free journey with the support from your significant other, it still takes both to stay on track and that all begins with open communication. It will make this bumpy road a little more smoother. #debtfreecommunity#debtfree#debtfreejourney#debtsnowball#debtfreegoals#debtfreedom#budget#budgetplanning#goals#goaldigger

When I was busting my ass after law school to pay down debt, I worked at a law firm about 60 hours a week and a CVS 20-30 hours a week.
I asked one of my regular customers that came in for cigarettes (yes CVS used to sell cigs🤣), how he was doing today?
He said “well Amanda, I’m still pushing down Daisies instead of pushing them up. So I guess I’m doin all right.”🤣
I don’t know why but it’s always stuck with me. He was a sweet old dude and optimistic most days.
As 31 is approaching this week I am grateful to be doin the same 🙌🏼🥰

If you could say one thing about motherhood, what would it be?
I’d say the days are long and the years are short. And I’d say mom friends are worth more than gold. Seriously. It’s the job that pays the least and takes the most time but matters the most. I wouldn’t trade the long days, endless messes and hearing “why” no less than 10,000 a day for anything.
What would you say?!
I’m learning to give myself at least half a day to unwind and give my mind and body a break, even if it’s after a workday. Tonight I’m folding clothes and cleaning everything before taking a long hot shower and curling up in the bed to watch Law and Order SVU. Tomorrow is the start of a new work week.
Nothing is easy the first time you do it, and there will be always be ups and downs on your journey. No matter how long you’ve been on it. You’ll have months you go over budget or buy things for your home that you don’t need. It’s a part of the process. .
Reality is the longer you do it, The easier it becomes. If you’re consistent with your efforts, you’ll reap the benefits of your hard work.
Don’t underestimate what you’re capable of accomplishing. .
What is something you were hesitant to start because you thought it would be difficult, But that you do now with ease? What did you do to push through? .
My family isn’t going to live like cave men. They will be involved and know what’s going on in the world. But having the latest and trendiest stuff at the expense of us being in debt? No, thanks.
And GUESS WHAT?! We won’t be missing out! At all! We will actually be living a BETTER life! I gave up fancy clothes to play with my kid more. I gave up having too many toys so we would go outside more. I gave up on trying to have expensive decor so I could stop charging credit cards. I gave up a bunch of useless items so I could have more downtime and relaxation.
Who cares if your counter tops, clothes, cars, or phone don’t follow the latest IG or Pinterest trends?! Some weird neighbor who judges your or some random person on the Internet who you have no connection with? If they do judge you, it’s time to minimize who’s opinions you allow into your life. Have them only if YOU want and can afford them.
So give up with me. Give up on trying to keep up with everyone and trying to please them.

Where my female breadwinners at?!? I became the higher earner in my relationship almost a year ago, and while this conversation would never happen in my relationship I dig the vibe of this response. 💅😂 -Kara
Ps listen to episode 2 for a peek into our relationships finances!
So that later, you can live and give like no one else! Bought most of my daughter’s clothes for school at the thrift shop today and came under budget by $30.00. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have set foot at a second hand store and now I’m getting better at finding deals and they are totally my thing. Do you thrift shop?😍 #kidscapsulewardrobe
