Picking a puppy to join your family... For those who buy puppies and don't rescue (I'm not against you in any way, as long as you get a puppy from health and temperament tested parents and a reputable breeder who really cares about linage, producing quality pups and where their dogs are going), choosing a puppy is a lot more than just picking the one that jumps on you first, or the cutest one. A lot of people just go for colour and look, they normally pick the one that comes up to them first.
Goldie was the first puppy I picked strategically, and it's beginning to show that I made the right choice.
I always look at both parents before I even look at the puppies, ideally I want to see the parents before the puppies are born.
I then ask the breeder to see all the puppies in a confined area together, I watch the puppies for a while and then begin to pick a few up (only if they're over 4 weeks old). At this point you can tell some characteristics that your pup may have - whether they're going to be brave, outgoing, shy, independent or reliant.
When I selected Goldie, I narrowed it down from 4 to 2 pups, the only reason I actually picked Goldie in the end (as I could not make a decision between the 2) was because she had no white on her.
Picking puppies is an art form!!

Yes, all these puppy pictures are making me seriously broody... I really really want another puppy but I'm trying to hold off until Jade is here. I want our home to be calm and balanced, which it is at the moment. Bringing a new puppy in now would upset the dynamics... Sounds a lot like I'm talking myself out of the idea 😂😂
