As a long time ethical vegetarian, it’s sometimes weird helping my meat-happy dog navigate his food choices.
For the first year Henry lived with me he ate a vegetarian diet. But when he was diagnosed with an incurable congenital heart issue, I decided to switch him to a meat-heavy mostly raw diet to help his heart stay as strong as possible as long as possible.
His nutrition and welfare is important to me, but so are the conditions of the animals whose lives went into making his food.
So it’s always a balancing act! I do my best to balance my lil bud’s food preferences with my ethics, and I’ll talk more about my strategies there in an upcoming post
