#savetheplanet#savetheworld#world#earth
Dreamy sunset in Port Moody ∬
Taking pictures of sunsets has always been my favourite but it’s so difficult to have them render the insane beauty of it in real life. It changes so quick and is so bright that my poor little iPhone camera can’t always keep up. We’re blessed with so many beautiful sunsets here in BC. I’ve witnessed so many crazy dusk skies in so many places in the world in my life.
This particular moment of the day has always made me feel special, like I’m in to some sort of secret about the earth’s magic, that only if your heart is open enough can you unravel. No matter how hard my day was, how tired I am, how hopeless I feel, going to see the sunset is always worth it 🙊🍃🌑
I took this picture in 2014 when I was lucky enough to visit the Amazon rainforest. I was genuinely overwhelmed by the beauty and magic of this place and that trip really opened my eyes to the need for sustainability.
The Amazon rainforest is home to thousands of animal species, indigenous communities and it produces 20% of the worlds oxygen. And it’s on fire. What is happening is horrifying for so many reasons and we can all do something to help. I don't accept that we can't all make some kind of a difference.
Here are some ways that we can help:
1- Show your outrage- share it, talk about it and make is known that this is unacceptable.
2- Reduce or TOTALLY CUT OUT beef- rainforest beef is commonly found in processed beef products. Cattle ranching is responsible for as much as 80% of the ongoing deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.
3- If you feel able to donate to protect land (https://www.ran.org/issue/protect_an_acre/).
4- Sign a petition- The WWF are calling the UK government to put the Amazon emergency on to the top of the G7 agenda. (https://www.wwf.org.uk/save-the-amazon).
The Lungs of the Earth are in flames. 🔥 The Brazilian Amazon—home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species—has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year—a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil). Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January.
The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check.
The Amazon needs more than our prayers. So what can YOU do?
✔ As an emergency response, donate to frontline Amazon groups working to defend the forest.
✔ Consider becoming a regular supporter of the Rainforest Alliance’s community forestry initiatives across the world’s most vulnerable tropical forests, including the Amazon; this approach is by far the most effective defense against deforestation and natural forest fires, but it requires deep, long-term collaboration between the communities and the public and private sectors. ✔ Stay on top of this story and keep sharing posts, tagging news agencies and influencers.
✔ Be a conscious consumer, taking care to support companies committed to responsible supply chains.
✔ When election time comes, VOTE for leaders who understand the urgency of our climate crisis and are willing to take bold action—including strong governance and forward-thinking policy.
