Self explanatory you would think...but apparently not.
It’s disgusting to hear one of my colleagues was seriously assaulted outside the front of one of our local hospitals in the early hours of this morning. Thank you to the police and security who came to his aid and apprehended the offender.
We go to work to help the community and shouldn’t need to fear for our own safety, but increasingly we do. It isn’t right!
Wishing my colleague a speedy recovery 😞

College graduation, May 2015. The plan was 2013.
I don’t talk about my ADHD diagnosis much in social media- just here and twitter where my people are in medicine and care about mental health- but it feels worth sharing. I didn’t get a diagnosis until I was 27. College took me longer than planned. I like to think I’m reasonably intelligent but I just couldn’t quite keep it together the way I wanted. I was unbelievably lucky to have a good friend who’s a physician notice all the signs and suggest that I be evaluated. My doctor was shocked that no one had seen the signs, that I was smart enough but would forget to do work. My sister used to sit on my bed and keep me on track when I’d do my work. I was so relieved to have an answer and to now have the tools to help me succeed more easily. I talked to someone I thought I was pretty close to about how relieved I was and was made to horrible- was told that maybe medicated certain people would see me as competent capable and more reasonable. I was both hurt and angry. I’ve accomplished a lot prior to the diagnosis- I graduated college with a solid gpa (just because it took longer doesn’t make it less of an accomplishment), I did well on the old mcat and got accepted to medical school, I was a supervisor and ems educator while in college, I finished paramedic school (even after sustaining a severe concussion), I finished basic training, I’m a good medic and more than that I’m a good person. My adhd doesn’t take any of that away. And medication doesn’t make me more or less competent, it just makes things a little less difficult. So for anyone who struggles with something like this: you’re awesome. No caveats. No “for someone withxyz”. You’re awesome, don’t let anyone try to take that from you #adhd#premed#paramedic#ems#emt#emseducation#mcat#medicalschool#nontradpremed#nontraditionalpremed#concussion#goalie
The public safety teamwork in this city is second to none - and that was clear during Wednesday night's shootout/standoff in North Philadelphia. We are grateful for our partnerships with @phillypolice, the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management and many other agencies. Read Mayor Jim Kenney's statement ➡️ http://bit.ly/2HmNes7 •
