As y’all probably know, the boys just had their first week of Børnehave (the Danish equivalent to kindergarten). Before I sent them off, I saw tons of posts on here from moms heartbroken that their kids were off to kinder, wishing that summer would never end, some even accompanied by pictures of their tear streaked faces, proof of truly committed motherhood. My excitement for my older two to begin full time school made me feel like a bad mom. When I dropped them off there were no tears from them or me. And while we’ve all agreed we miss each other, honestly nothing feels super monumental or difficult or strange. In fact, I’m so busy at home and the day flys by so quickly, I hardly notice they are gone! But what I have noticed is a huge increase in my patience, my appreciation and my pride for them. I have the ability to like, prep dinner and clean their clothes and when they are home, I have the time to build LEGO sets and sit and watch movies with them. And I feel like a good mom.

After seeing similar video on the page of @sennarelax, some time ago while I had not moved to Switzerland, I’ve promised myself that I will visit this place! First, to check how beautiful and second - how scary is there!) 😍🗻
It is definitely scary and beautiful! And it is even more steep in reality than on the video! You’re just totally perpendicular to the ground! Can be compared with „free fall tower“ attraction, but moving very slow!
Definitely worth trying and paying 26 chf for round trip! 🇨🇭❤️😍 @toowilddj

#expatlife#expat#newlife#blogger#antillesfrancaises#antilles#martinique#caraibes#metropole#demenagement#travel#travelphotography#travelblogger#photooftheday#picoftheday#love#nature#naturephotography#life#happy#instagood#likeforlikes#like4likes#likeforfollow#like4follow#metrotomadinina

When you have lived abroad for as long as 7 years by yourself, you understand that sunshine and outdoors are a MUST in your psychological and emotional stability.
And beautiful sceneries that remind you why you choose this or that city make help you understand your choices.
Today I attended a professional development workshop on inclusion. There were many important points made, but some points were crucial for expat teachers to consider as they navigate the complex system of the international school. My key takeaways for expats:
~ cultural sensitivity is of utmost importance. In many cultures, learning differences is a taboo topic.
~ consider language translation- the subtleties of language could lead to meaning getting misinterpreted. Ensure top notch translation for any conversations around learning differences.
~ in many countries, diagnoses, services and treatments may be frustratingly unavailable. We as educators still have a duty to try our utmost to reach all students in our classes. Perhaps that may mean connecting with the SENCO or some extra reading for tips to enable all students to learn.
~ a lot of tactics for EAL students will also benefit SEN students- groupings, scaffolds, word banks, visuals, mindful minutes, whole brain learning etc.
~ expat children may suffer from anxiety, grief and depression as they adjust to moving countries.

☀️ Saturday morning in my house means a giant stack of pancakes 🥞... or as M likes to call them, “Buddy pancakes”, named such because they’re made with red and green Christmas M&M’s and syrup. 💁♀️🎅🎄
As expats people often ask how do we find our village abroad? The answer is simply that our village finds us. The people who are like minded gravitate to each other. It’s an energy that’s put out that says we belong together, we are a family, and we have each other’s backs! ♥️ ⬇️
The world is vast and yet it’s also extremely small 🌍 We are never without people who love us and show up on behalf of our family unit. @luckylebo4 been with us since Egypt and 2 rounds of China. He’s stuck with us ‼️😂 🤷🏾♀️ ⬇️
Somo (Lebron Jersey) is from Equatorial Guinea and immediately gravitated to Nasir! He played with him, spoke to him en Español, and truly showed up as a village uncle! These experiences are invaluable and yet so rich 🥰
The journey can feel a bit lonely at times, but that’s simply apart of the process! Want to know more about making the move abroad? 😳
I have an ebook that’ll be released next week with all there is to know before you go! #StayTuned 📖
I still consider Ethiopia home. The place and the people and the memories I have there are roots that go deep. But I identify with what Pollock says, because one other aspect of my trip to China stood out to me: how much my time there felt like home.
China, of course, is vastly different from Ethiopia. But just doing life with Liz’s family – attending her brother’s basketball game at the small international school, going out to dinner with their expat neighbors, playing games in the evening with her younger siblings – it all felt so deeply familiar and right to my soul. Beyond climbing the Great Wall or visiting the Forbidden Palace, those ordinary daily moments were the highlights of the trip for me. I was a college student still finding my way and climbing a steep learning curve, but this I knew how to do – even though it was in a part of the world I had never been before.
As a TCK, I feel most at home when I am out in the world.
