We left the trailhead for Lake O'Hara just as dawn broke and the fog was heavy with a light drizzle. The distance to the lake was 11km down a fire road and it was fairly cold. But as we progressed, the fog started to lift and the mountains started peaking through (see last photo). By the time we reached the lake, we were exhilarated instead of tired and decided to hike to Lake Oesa which was another 6.6km RT. We knew if we didn't get a spot on the return shuttle, we'd have to hike another 11km back to the car. But the scenery was so amazing, we couldn't resist. To say that we weren't disappointed would have been the understatement of the year. Wow! This may be the best overall hike we have ever done! Fortunately, we did get one of the last spots on the return shuttle. 🙌 *Side note: you can book the shuttle to and from the lake but you have to get lucky (42 spots per day including campers) and they are booked months in advance. Or you can pay cash if there is room for the return shuttle only. #ontherogue#yohonationalpark#lakeohara#lakeoesatrail#parkscanada#canadanationalparks#findyourpark#hikingislife
“Into the great wide open. Under the skies so blue.”
Tom Petty had a way with words.
Sometimes there are words for what we are experiencing, and sometimes it feels that words aren’t enough.
I have an unflagging and potentially misguided desire to attribute words to those wordless experiences.
So here are a few:
We are guided by morality, desire, love, and truth.
Let it continue to guide us all, and may we leave each place and organism better than we found it.
I have something to admit. I made my husband pull over because I swore I saw a buffalo. Everyone in the car said, no mom, it's a cow!! But I swore it was a buffalo... I walked down the road to get a better look...it was a cow. 😂

Running for the weekend like 👀
This weekend my plans are to practice yoga, spend time with friends, walk to all the bookstores, and sit on some patios with a book, french fries, and rosé.
I cannot wait.
What are your weekend plans??

Spring time vibes up in the alpine. Definitely was a treat to stumble upon this scene in August!

I’ve been hearing a lot of talk of fall recently and it’s stressing me out! I know it’s already mid-August but I feel as if my summer has barely begun 😅 So I’m going to spend the next couple of days backpacking and soaking up every second of summer I can get! Are you hiking or camping anywhere this weekend?
NPT Day 1 | 12 miles:
I ended up finding myself a gorgeous private campsite on Woods lake. I had made good travel time for my first day. I started the trail at 10:45am and made it to my campsite by 4 pm. My pack was a solid 31 pounds at this time and I was feeling it right away as the first couple miles of the first 12 were a steep climb. I crossed West Stoney Creek which was only knee deep where I crossed. I met a woman hiking north as well. Her and I talked while we filtered our water before we parted ways. Soon after arriving to Woods Lake there were a few sun-showers on and off before sunset. I had a “Ramen Bomb” for dinner, got in the lake to rinse off my trail sweat and got ready for bed. I heard loons, owls and coyotes most of the evening until I woke up around 6am to begin Day 2. #northvilleplacidtrail

Be patient. I tell my class this a lot. And honestly sometimes I don’t think they know what it means. Persevere. I definitely have to explain that one.
I tell them that patience is recognizing that things take time. And it might be hard. But you have the ability to overcome frustration. To persevere.
Because we only see the top of the iceberg. The strong tree trunks. But think about what’s underneath. The time. Effort. Patience. Perseverance. Frustrating days. Productive days. The things that build the visible. Build success.
You have to start first. Fail first. Learn first. To make the next draft. To have the breakthrough. To build upon. I have to persevere. This day and every day. If it wasn’t a challenge it wouldn’t be rewarding.

A social media darling, #HorseshoeBend has become one of the most recognized and visited places at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in #Arizona . Below the red rock rim, the Colorado River makes a wide sweep around a sandstone escarpment, created a roughly 1,000-feet deep, 270º horseshoe-shaped bend in #GlenCanyon . It’s a breathtaking view and a glimpse into the area’s geologic past. Photo @glencanyonnps courtesy of Josh Packer (@packtography). #travel#FindYourPark#usinterior
