Happy birthday to the legend that is @maxchanic !!
He’s currently tied up with a gnarly knee injury but is doing what he does best and powering through recovery (nothing stops this guy)!
Happy birthday and healing vibes to the best mechanic and overall awesome dude!
André’s report on yesterday’s @abudhabifixedgear fixed-gear crit:
“Yesterday was the first time I got to race my fixed-gear bike in the country I live in, in a race organized by someone else. This race was planned only a couple of days ahead and we were made aware of it the day before. That is the beauty of it and the reason why Miguel and I were 100% in right away.
15 guys showed up and 10 started the race. The plan was for Miguel and I to stay with the bunch on the first lap to make sure we knew the course and then breakaway and TTT the following 4 laps (15km) of this non-technical course.
I had a 94.5in ratio and Miguel an 86.4in one. That said, I knew Miguel was going to make me work most of the way to tire me out because of me being the sprinter and us actually wanting to race each other. So I pulled for most of the 2nd and 3rd laps. With 1 to go Miguel attacked and I dug deeper than I ever had just to close the small gap that had formed. I stayed on his wheel, pretending to be ok and trying to recover. With a couple of kms to go he pulled aside and I attacked with everything I had in hopes to drop him. No gap was opened. I swung and slowed slowed down hoping to make him attack but he didn’t so I tried again, now with just over a K to go. It did not work again and now I was worried. He was fresh, I had not been able to drop him with my bigger gear. Had he attacked I would not have been able to catch him like I did a lap earlier. So I did it myself. With all I had left in the tank and a couple hundred meters to go, somehow I was able to stay ahead and take the win. My biggest takeaway wasn’t the win but the best sprint of my life and that’s the beauty of having the best teammates in the World.”
Thanks to the organizers for making sure the boys don’t forget how to race the bike and giving us the opportunity to hang out with the local fixed-gear community. We can’t wait for more! #TeamKingdom#MadeByKingdom@rapha@dsd_composites #fixiecrit#critracing#brakeless#uaecycling@dubai_cycling#fixedgear
