Drinking ½ liter of water (17 ounces) is seen to boost metabolism by 24-30% for up to 90 minutes. Drink enough but not too much!
☀️It’s been sooo hot lately. I love makeup but I try to not use a lot of chemicals in my everyday skin care and in general around my house. I found this sunscreen earlier this summer at @sprouts and my family loves it. It’s non-toxic and made with organic ingredients. My daughters love the tinted one for their face bc it doesn’t leave white residue on them. 👌🏽 🧪Did you know that regular sunscreen has so many chemicals in it that it can disrupt your endocrine system and even cause fertility issues in both men and women? 😳👎🏽

How do you manage stress?
At work everyone always asks me how I never lose my cool, I’m always calm even when things are out of control and I get things done efficiently. That’s one of the basic requirements of being an ER doc, being able to handle chaos, multitask, compartmentalize and risk stratify. If we lose our cool who is going to take care of our patients?
I try to do all of these things but at some point the stress starts to build up. I become anxious and have trouble sleeping after a particularly tough shift. Lately it seems insomnia is just a part of my daily life. A friend recommended trying an app for mediation and sleep. I never got around to it so when @headspace reached out to me to try their app I thought it would be the perfect opportunity. Over the next few weeks I’m going to attempt to implement mediation in my routine and use their sleepcasts to help with insomnia. I’ll be checking in with you guys to let you know how it’s going. Have you ever used @headspace? Do you have trouble with insomnia, stress or anxiety? #ad#headspace

When I was at my undergraduate campus, I’d always see white coats walking around; both medical students and doctors. I wanted to be them so badly. I wondered if I’d ever make it to that point. At the time, it seemed so far away.
In research lab, I remember taking instructions from post-docs and graduate students on what to do and how to set up experiments. I strived to learn, but I was nowhere near as knowledgable. I knew I had a long way to go to get to that level.
When I slow down to think about the trajectory of my life, I can’t believe it. I’m really here now. I’m a second year medical student. I lead a team of undergraduate students in research lab. I forget sometimes (many times really) that I wake up everyday and am now in the position I once deeply aspired to be in.
The journey doesn’t stop yet. I now aspire to reach the next milestone (looking at you long white coat 👀). For now, I’m deeply humbled and appreciative. I’m exactly where I want to be.
Since Governor Mills signed her executive order on January 3 to expand Medicaid (MaineCare), more than 34,000 people have been enrolled! And a whopping 51% of expansion enrollees are younger than age 40. Research shows that overall, Medicaid expansion is associated with better access to health care, more affordable coverage, and improved health outcomes – without a significant, consistent increase in state spending. @boisestaterespiratorycare professor Samantha Davis (MS, RRT-NPS, AE-C) was given a #shoutout article by the AARC (American Association for Respiratory Care) for her work with @boisemakers (The Maker Lab, located in @albertsonslibrary). 🏆🙌 ⠀
Professor Davis will be 3D printing hearts with neonatal cardiac defects for students to study and learn from. “Countless studies have shown us that engagement, application, and critical thinking are all significantly higher when active-learning strategies are used,” Davis said. 🖤 Professor Davis is actively working on continuing her implementation of 3D printing in her coursework for undergraduate students, by giving them the tools they need to print the hearts themselves 👩🔧

Amy Maschmeyer recently celebrated her one-year anniversary as a Registration Specialist at St. Elizabeth Edgewood. When she left her previous career at a marketing agency, Amy was looking for a rewarding part-time career that allowed her to spend time with her husband and two little girls, as well as one that provided healthcare benefits for her growing family.
Her mother, who was an APRN and midwife at St. Elizabeth, helped spark her interest in healthcare. Amy said that working right here has been a refreshing change for her professional life—one that she has found to be incredibly rewarding as she helps put patients and their families at ease when they come in for care.

It was an honor to be recognized alongside LA’s healthcare’s leaders at today’s @labjevents 2019 Healthcare Leadership Awards. There much more work ahead to do, but I’m truly inspired by all that my peers continue to achieve. #healthcareleaders#labjhcla
I got my MCAT scores back this morning and with everything considered (GPA, extracurricular activities, shadowing, etc...) I won’t be retaking it!
I want to take a minute to thank you for all your prayers, support, and encouragement throughout this summer.
This has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do since I’ve been in college, but I did it! Not only that, but I did it well. I put in the work and I got the results I expected and hoped for.
Now let’s finish out these last two semesters and graduate 🙌🏻.
Class starts back Thursday! Honestly pretty pumped to go back. The break has been nice, but I miss having a routine.
I’ve also found my niche in a local college ministry thanks to my roommate Emily. I have a feeling this semester will be one of the best ones yet.
