I have decided to make an Instagram account to document our process of purchasing & renovating our first house.
The house is a three bedroom semi-detached on a cul-de-sac. We are located in the north of Manchester.
We were a little bit anxious about the actual process of purchasing. As first-time buyers, we had absolutely no idea what to expect and had heard plenty of horror stories; however, the process was incredibly smooth and - dare I say it - quite easy. The whole process took a total of three and a half weeks. We submitted our mortgage application on a Saturday, had it approved by the following Thursday, and then the following two weeks was a case of the solicitor completing the paperwork before we finally exchanged.
Granted, the seller wasn’t in a chain... she had purchased the house when it was first built in 1995, and had rented it out to the same person ever since, and wanted to sell it after he moved out to live with family.
Unfortunately, the house hasn’t been kept in the best condition, and the majority of it hasn’t been changed since it was built almost 25 years ago, so there’s a lot to be done with it. But we felt that it had so much potential - it’s incredibly close to all of my family (which was always a must), it’s in a lovely location and there is the opportunity to extend in the future.
We are both incredibly excited to make this place our home. We are really hoping to move in around end of September/early October, as we would like to be settled before Christmas - but we recognise that things don’t always happen according to schedule!
