Slicing a perfectly cooked Wagyu steak is one of the simple pleasures of life!
And when it’s cooked in Hibachi, coated with naga pickle and served with refreshing Yam Dtaeng Gwa (Thai Cucumber Salad) it’s super delicious.
It’s juicy, beautifully crusted and perfectly pink in the middle. This is my favourite way to have steak now a days.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I’m sure we can all agree that Sunday funday IS A HOLIDAY. Therefore, celebration is needed. Black garlic skirt, piquillo pepper coulis, green crack sauce, black garlic eggplant, roasted yellow cherries, charred scallion, and chive. Let me start by saying black garlic is one of the most amazing ingredients, period. So much depth in flavor. Straight umami with soy-molasses undertone. The meat was marinated overnight with black garlic spice mix, black garlic, sundried tomato oil, and fish sauce. Cooked absolutely perfect on a hot grill pan. The eggplant paired so beautifully with the garlic and really played an important roll that I will get to shortly. Next the sauces. Green crack. I literally threw everything in it. Parsley, oregano, basil, olive herb, green onion, garlic, vinegar, evoo, spices. You tasted every single layer. Super herbaceous and fresh. Roasted red pepper sauce, can’t go wrong. Acidic and served cold just like the green whatever you want to call it. Very traditional blend of flavors. The dish as a whole was kind of a souped up “tomato-eggplant-roasted red pepper-pesto” combo. It all goes hand in hand. The eggplant tied everything together. With the strong and cold sauces, the eggplant helped neutralize and round out the completed bite. Charred onion was a great addition. Also a fairly quick dish without the need to cook down any sauce for hours etc. Magic bullet and I’M SET. Overall a delicious and fresh dish that had a nice pop of color. Off the plane and hungry! My family took us to one of their favorite Lao-Thai restaurant, Stix Eatery @stixeats in California yesterday for lunch. Love how cute their papaya salad was displayed in the koke (mortar). The thummakhoong was really good! We got a mix of Laotian and Thai dishes from saigok, basil wings, tofu stirfry, Khaopieksen to Boat Noodles. And of course some sticky rice/khaoniew.
