Ghost Sign. Talladega Alabama. A great way to clear your mind.
This was originally the Chambers Opera House built in 1880.Grocery store and Saloon on ground floor and Opera House on second floor. Seating Capacity of 1000.
Ghost sign reads Talladega Furniture Co. . Another source says Chamber's Opera House, Talladega, Alabama
Chamber's Opera House, Talladega, Alabama. This is the old Chamber's Opera House. It was originally built before the Civil War, the exact year is unknown. During the Civil War, Mr. S.D. Watson manufactured rifles for the Confederacy in this building. After the Civil War, George Chambers operated a general merchandise store here. In 1880, during the economic "boom" times of Talladega, he remodeled the building into the Chambers Opera House. Some of the best vaudeville acts to play New York also played the Chambers Opera House.
Julius Can’s Official Theatrical Guide of 1900 – 1901 described the Chambers Opera House as such: “Talladega – population 5,000. Chamber’s New Opera House. George W. Chambers, manager. Seating capacity, 1,000. Prices .25 cents to $1. Illumination, gas." The Clardy Brothers purchased the building and remodeled the plain facade in 1905 with the ornate brickwork you see today. With the opening of the Elks Theater on East Street, the Clardy Brothers closed the opera house and remodeled the building as a furniture store. When the Clardy's retired in the 1950s, the Standard Furniture Company (chain) bought the building.. #talladega#talladegaalabama#history#alabamahistory#photographinghistory#photographingalabama#inhisname#ghostsigns#ghostsign#alabamahistory#alabamaphotography#alabamaphotographer#birminghamalabama#huntsvillealabama#montgomeryalabama#mobilealabama#betheone#mentalhealthawarenessmonth
Participant: "This doesn't work, this isn't how someone is going to attack you. I've been attacked and what you are showing doesn't work!" Me: "I'm going to ask you to do something that's going to be very hard for you to do, ... and that's to trust me." After her initial statement, the class gathered to hear about her experience of being attacked. She was convinced that what we were doing in class was nothing more than a 'feel good' presentation of self defense training just like all the other courses.
After several minutes of explaining and demonstrating the "how and why" of what we do I ended the conversation with asking her to trust me.
I've spent years talking, interviewing, and responding to crimes of domestic violence, assaults, sexual assaults, and attempted murders. I have a good handle on the reality of violence. I KNOW how it works and what it takes to counter it.
After yesterday's 3 hour course was over she left this review. This is a review from someone who was very skeptical about our training. Someone who had experienced violence and could recognize "bull$hit" in a heartbeat.
We prepare men, women, and children for what could possibly be the worse day of their life. We provide options, expand their mind for critical thinking, and get them in shape while doing so.
I was very fortunate to have her in my class yesterday because I was able to make a believer out of a non-believer. Self defense training is more than just a business for me. It's a passion and I put all of my sweat, blood, and tears into helping others become safer, confident people. #concealedtactical
To join the stretcher to the post of the leg assemblies I made 4-1/2" long (3/4" wide) mortise and tenons on the @pantorouter.usa. Since I didn't have a custom sized template, the guys at Pantorouter sent me their experiment of taking segments of a 2" and 3" template to form a 4-1/2" template. It worked flawlessly. I made the through tenons 1/8" longer which will later be wedged, rounded over, and shaped. I also cut off most of the tenon waste at the bench with my tenon saw, making lighter with with the router. I purposefully made an "offset" tenon because the stretcher will receive an arched profile. If any owners of the Pantorouter experiment with segmented templates on their own, send @pantorouter.usa the pictures and they'll send you a set of replacement templates. #mortiseandtenon#machinetools#pantorouter#throughmortiseandtenon#trestletable#joinery#router#woodworkingmachines
