Finally taking time out to enjoy the last of the summer weather after a crazy week doing house stuff 🌞
We’ve now found a house we love and started the process, so in the next couple of weeks we could be new home owners!
Praying it all goes to plan because I’ve already mentally moved in via Pinterest 🤷🏻♀️🏡
“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” -John Muir
While in Bohol, we visited the Loboc Manmade Forest. From a solely visual standpoint, this forest is beautiful, a 2km stretch of land completely surrounded by INSANELY tall mahogany trees. Makes for a killer touristy Instagram spot. The story behind it, however, gives it a bit of a deeper meaning.
The Loboc Manmade Forest is actually a reforestation effort that the local government started several decades ago. In an effort to combat the effects of “kaingin” (slash-and-burn farming) in Bohol, local schools were required to plant trees as part of their curriculum. While biologists discovered years later that mahogany trees didn’t quite have the effect they were hoping for (the non-native trees altered the biodiversity of the land, and many native animal/plant species couldn’t be fully restored), the concerted effort and good intentions are still a marker of what we can do to fix the damage we’ve done to our planet. Just need to make sure we do our research first.
I’ve been hearing about the devastating fires in the Amazon, which I understand are mostly due to the cattle farming industry, not unlike Bohol. While nothing can be done to stop what’s already been destroyed, it’s places like this forest that give me even small hope that we can right the wrong. Call me an optimist, but something can be done; we just have to step up and be the solution.
WARNING: work on your posture before posing in a swim suit 🙃 Also don’t eat a whole bowl of muddy buddies that you brought to share with your entire fam but then accidentally ate all yourself 🤣 After that, enjoy your jump.
I am beyond ready to stamp my passport once again and experience #CapeTown for the very first time. Shoutout to @jenniferlucytyler & @julestheexplorer for developing a BOMB itinerary & getting these amazing group of women together.
This also means that I’m looking for new luggage for the trip! Any suggestions?
