As an agency owner who recruits nationally, I always my new agents to consider spending a day in the field learning the business with either myself or an experienced agent in my team.
The reason for this is that no amount of training beats first-hand, in-the-trenches experience with prospects and trying to sell them on buying life insurance.
And one of the BIGGEST benefits to doing a ride-along as a new agent is NOT necessarily the learning experience (although you'll definitely learn a lot!). Instead, it's gaining the CONFIDENCE that you can see yourself actually doing what your trainer is teaching.
Most of us our Doubting Thomas's. We have to SEE to BELIEVE. But once we do, we become much stronger in our convictions to follow through on our commitment to this new insurance business we're apart of.
This was how it went with me when I was new. I rode along with my sales trainer Andrew Fike.
I can't remember ANYTHING that Andrew did from a sales standpoint that stuck with me... But I DO remember the feeling that this business was WAY less intimidating than I thought, and that I could DEFINITELY follow the script and process Andrew did without issue.
Moral of the story. ALWAYS take the opportunity to learn first-hand. Yes, online training, YouTube videos, and so on are good learning resources, but NOTHING repeats the experience of seeing the process happen right before your eyes.

If you are looking to write a BIG volume of insurance, look first and foremost at your activity level, and determine how you're going to SUSTAIN a high level for the long-term without burning out in the short term.
Long-term, sustained commitment to a strategy matters FAR more than what week- or month-long hot streak we hit.
The graveyards of insurance careers are full of agents with great days, weeks - even months, but could not fully commit when the going got tough.
How do you sustain a high level of activity?
First, outsource activities that others can handle. Appointment setting and admin work are the first activities that come to mind.
You'll make your investment back IMMEDIATELY with the freed-up time you now have to run appointments.
Second, focus on what matters. And for an insurance agent like you, NOTHING matters more than SEEING THE PEOPLE.
Your mission in life should be to run as many sales presentations as you can without getting burned out. And with the details outsourced to your team, you'll be better able to focus on hitting daily and weekly presentations goals.
New Insurance Agents - You Need A Track To Run On!
If you are a new agent or experienced agent who is struggling, understand that one of the MOST important things you can do is to follow a proven sales and marketing system for whatever product/market you're serving.
Legendary insurance man Ben Feldman talked about this a lot in his book "The Feldman Method," where he explains how he was able to write tremendous volumes of life business seeing his prospects.
It's not enough to have a license a few carriers. Not at all! You need to figure out how to take the privilege the State extends you as a licensed insurance agent, and how to manifest it into a process that helps people predictably.
What does this mean? It means (a) you need to have a group of a people who have a need, and a product (or products) that solve that need and (b), you need a way to get in front of them to show them how you can solve their product.
In my agency, we teach agents how to sell final expense burial insurance using paid leads like Facebook and direct mail leads, targeting seniors over 60.
This represents a large opportunity since there are lots of old folks that don't have coverage, while giving the agent the opportunity to FIND those people using one of the lead systems.
Check out this awesome testimonial from a real user: Last week I had 11 sits off of the FB leads, closed 8! (72% closing ratio). Today, I had 6 appts, 5 sits, 4 closed, for 7 apps… over $4k AP! Not to mention 1 more appt tonight… all from these Facebook Leads." -Greg M #leads#theleadgurus#insurance#insuranceleads#finalexpenseleads http://bit.ly/2Zo37ov
