#pleinair for Spring City Plein Air 2019. There are some amazing artists competing this week. Quite humbling to say the least. If you’re near Spring City this Friday or Saturday make sure you stop by the gallery...you’re bound to be impressed.
Thanks to everyone who dropped by my meet & greet event this weekend at Nostalgia Coffee. It was a pleasure introducing my art to folks in the neighbourhood and thanks to the coffee overdose I had all night to think about it 🤯
Next up is the Kawartha Arts Festival, August 31st - September 1st in Fenelon Falls. Great show I've participated in the last few years, hope to see you there🍺

I watched The Creative Brain yesterday while folding the never-ending pile of laundry. The presenter was neuroscientist David Eagleman and he offered three ways to exercise your creative brain:
1. Try something new. This is because our brain is wired to take the path of least resistance because it knows what to do and what to expect. Doing something new makes your brain work harder therefore tapping into more brain power.
2. Push boundaries. To be most creative is to gently nudge those boundaries set by yourself or others.
3. I've got to watch it again to remember the third way! I🤣 I wasn't paying attention anymore because my mind lingered on the first two points and how it could relate to a painting I did earlier in the evening.
So after I had finished folding, I went back to my painting and applied what came to mind when I was watching the documentary.
First image is the finished painting and the second is where I would usually have left it and actually did think I was done earlier. I tried something new that sat outside my comfort zone.
I am inspired, I feel the wind, I feel water, as they roar in my soul. I feel the space they hold for me to know my Self.
A study of one of my favorites by Joaquin Sorolla 🌊🌞🙏🏼 I true see er of the light and how it shines through all forms. #joaquinsorolla#joaquinsorollaybastida#mastercopy
Black Eyed Susans - an Ant's Perspective.
My piece for the McMichael Plein Air contest. Some passersby commented that it was very Rousseau - I almost died 😊
Enjoyed my two days painting on the beautiful grounds and exploring the town a bit today.
Last night's painting: rain-spoiled hay, baled to get it off the field so the next crop can grow. It will likely become mulch in the gardens.
The clouds dissipated while I worked, and the shadows grew long.
Thinking about this series today as summer winds down, even though I’m at the beach as we speak. But this fall is going to be awesome! Click the link in my bio for info on the @sugarlift plein air event in Prospect Park on Sept. 7 that I’m cohosting with @marcelodaldoce, @luiscolanart, @gunopark, and @dinabrodsky, sponsored by @legionpaper; you’ll also find info there on my workshops @ccsschoolofart later in September. If you’re curious about the workshop you should totally come to the plein air event and ask me about it! Or if you can’t do any of this, click the link for my tutorial videos instead 🌳
Last word: some of this series is still available @garveysimon .
