When I was a child I walked like a child, I talked like a child. But, when I became a woman I put childish things away.
Do you ever feel as though you're missing out on something?
You see people "living their best life" on #IG and you wish you were doing some of what seems to make everyone so happy?!? When I was a child I used to love to stay up late, for no reason at all! But, as I get older I learn that I have to stand up to myself and tell myself when it's time to take it down.
I was scheduled to be in #MarthasVineyard this week for work and in NJ for a #realestate conference today But, as life goes I had to decline due to multiple personal responsibilities and simply taking care of the mentals this week. Lately, that's my norm!
There was a time when I used to go from work to home to an outing or event for the work I was doing with a film company or an agency to network with the industry. Now, I'm happiest sitting in the sun thinking about my next vacation!
Tomorrow, I return to the office and I gladly look forward to it. I also look forward to finding the littlest things that bring me joy outside of the office, too. What I've learned as I've gotten older is you make your own fun. It isn't about where you are all of the time, but rather who you're with. Most days, I enjoy who I'm with-- #mefirst !
I just want to say I had an amazing 3 days at Martha’s Vineyard. Black Excellence was just leaking out all over the place! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾✊🏾✊🏾I spun at 3 PHENOMENAL EVENTS! Hadn’t had this much fun in quite some time and my soul desperately needed it! I’d like to thank Shawndya Luisa Simpson and her husband Jake, Len and Brett from Uptown Magazine, Stephen Anglin, Deb Santos and Chris Washington for having me! Met so many new and interesting people over my time spent there. Last but not least I have to thank my housemates (The JQs 🤣) for being basically perfect. Octavia Taylor, Marneia Gravely Mitchell, Deirdre Clarke and Kia Floyd you ladies were simply the best! It was truly a pleasure meeting you and sharing great conversations with you beauties! I mean we didn’t even turn the tv on once!! Good times!! This is a little video recap of my stay! Enjoy and let’s hope I can come back and spin at those same fantastic events next year! Superhero DJ Jon Quick out! 🎧🎤🎬 #dj#djlife#marthasvineyard#vineyardlife#thejonquickbrand#blackexcellence#superheroapproved

✨Sunday Art Appreciation 🎨💛✨This week, Harlem Renaissance Artist & Educator 👩🏾🎨Lois Mailou Jones✨" Mine is a quiet exploration, a quest for new meanings in color, texture and design."- "It is a great joy to paint."-L.M.J.✨Lois was born in 1905 in Boston. Her father was a lawyer, the first African-American to graduate from the Suffolk Law School, in Boston. Her mother was a cosmetologist. The family spent summers at their home on Martha's Vineyard. It was there that Lois would paint watercolor sketches, receive encouragement, display her early art, and make early connections in the black art and literary world. The artist attended Boston HS of Practical Art, as well as the school of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She studied textile and costume design, as an apprentice with Grace Ripley. She continued her education, earning a graduate degree in 1928. Her early Harlem Renaissance paintings reflected masks, and textiles of African themes. She also painted beautiful landscapes, florals, textiles, portraiture, as well as bold geometrics, all with the similar thread of bright, beautiful color. This lifelong academic, became an educator and enjoyed an active career which lasted into her 90's. Lois died in 1998, at the age of 92. Such an amazing woman. There's so much more to learn about this talented, Inspirational artist! Much more then I am able to convey here. Visit your local museum or art gallery.✨Be Inspired by art! 🎨✨✌🏾💛👩🏾🎨⭐️✨ #Sunday#artist#art#sundayartappreciation#painter#painting#harlemrenaissance#loismailoujones#blackgirlmagic#geek#chicgeek#museumoffineartsboston#educator#howarduniversity#marthasvineyard#africanmasks#masks#inspirational#quotes#artistsoninstagram#iloveart#femaleartist#blackartist#selfportrait#blackfemaleartist#history#beinspiredbyart#iloveart
12am and I can’t help but to dream of cape cod waves, the sandy beaches, and dolphins making the shoreline run. If you have never been to the cape, I highly recommend a visit. Head down to Ptown or Martha’s vineyard to grab a cup of of joe or a brew(ptown brew is a must) and read a nice book, you can enjoy the views of a lifetime!! Just be sure to stay clear of the 14 foot great white sharks 😂 #massachusettsismyhome#capecodlife#marthasvineyard
#marthasvineyard#friends#summer2019 🌴 My friend and I are took a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard. We left early in the morning so we can catch the ferry that was leaving 9:00am from New Bedford to oak Bluffs. From Oak bluffs we took the bus to Edgartown. Edgartown is a beautiful place full of fun. Restaurant, coffee & ice cream shops, beautiful small stores next to each other. We ate at the Seafood Shanty. After we met Carolines new friend who came to pick us up and stayed at katama south beach for a little bit.
I know, I know - you are thinking this doesn't look like a bathroom, right? Well I promise if you swipe through you will see how with a bit of creativity a bathroom it can be! The people of Edgartown Bicycles on @marthasvineyard created a bathroom in the most adorable wood shingled shed, coated in ivy. 🍃The inside is an adorable hodge podge of items, both a storage shed for the company & maybe a personal storage shed, as well as a bathroom. With all the different items it has a lot of potential to be something special. It's better in person than in the pics - so check it out yourself if you are ever in the area. The toilet and sink were spotless, sparkly clean! Meyers soap and hand towels supplied. I'd give it a top score for cleanliness alone, especially as it smelled nice. Especially loves the boxing mitts on the door for some fun 🥊 So overall we give them a 7/10. Side note: the Edgartown Bicycle experience is highly recommended. Fabulous customer service, friendly, attentive, & make sure you really get the bike rental you are looking for 🚴♀️
