In the summer of 1989, the world’s most wanted drug lord, Pablo Escobar, had narrowly averted assassination, challenged extradition treaties, dared the law to take him to war, and pulled in enough illicit cash to retain his spot on Forbes magazine’s coveted list of the world’s richest people. Swipe up on our Instagram Stories to read our latest blog on that wild era of the 1980s and to explore the myths and the man who will likely be the proverbial poster boy of illicit drug kings for decades to come.
We paid a visit to the Los Angeles County of Natural History Museum, and the place was surprisingly beautiful. It look like it came straight out of the set of the movie Night at the Museum, and we spend almost an entire day there. Definitely would recommend this to anyone visiting LA!

The stairway at the Temple of Horus at Edfu is a sight to behold. The sun’s rays illuminate the ancient stone and cast light on the magnificent inscriptions.
Edfu Temple was built during the Ptolemaic Kingdom. To put this into context the Pyramids were already thousands of years old by the time Edfu Temple came along. The artisans who built it would of been inspired by the architecture of the Old Kingdom.
The complex was lost under drifting sands and silt until it was identified in 1860 when excavations began to reclaim it from the desert.
To walk up these stairs is to walk through history.

————————————————
The “Praise Poem of Urukagina”
That ancient Mesopotamia gave the world its first legal codes is common knowledge, but few know that it also gave the world its first human rights document. The “Praise Poem of Urukagina,” written in approximately 2350 BCE, describes the city of Lagash’s program of local reforms. It also defends the rights of the poor and speaks out against government corruption. Among a long list of past abuses and future promises, the surviving fragment includes this line: “Urukagina promises [his god] Ningirsu that he would never subjugate the waif and the widow to the powerful.” Although other documents of the time indicate Urukagina did not keep some of his promises, it is significant that he made these promises at all. #urukagina#ancient#ancienthistory#archaeology#archaeologist#arthistory#tarih#arkeoloji#sanattarihi#antik#archeology#archaeological#sumerians#sümerler#arthistory#antiktarih#archeologia#arqueologia#mesopotamia#art#travel#visit#museum#müze#temple#sculpture#sümerce#ancientlaw#antikçağ
