THE MOIRAI (Moirae) were the 3 goddesses of fate who personified the inescapable destiny of man. They assigned to every person his/her fate. The individuals were Clotho, the "Spinner," who spun the thread of life, Lachesis, "Apportioner of Lots", who measured it, and Atropos, "She who cannot be turned," who cut it short.
At the birth, the Moirai spinned out the thread of his future life, followed his steps, and directed the consequences of his actions according to the counsel of the gods.
Today is world honey bee day! I originally posted the below with an old photo over a year ago but as I’m lazy I hope you don’t mind me repeating it with a new photo (note: I know that’s not a honey bee but I don’t think I have a specific honey bee photo 😭 then again it could be. I’m no bee expert!)⠀
It’s national insect week! In honour of these tiny little beasties that keep the world going round, this is a post about the folklore of one of my – and many others’ – favorites: the bee. Small, bright and fuzzy, the bee is a common sight in spring and summer, their drone a constant companion in the countryside. Bees have been firmly seated within mythology and folklore of a number of countries for millennia, from the beekeeping God Aristaeus, who was punished for causing the death of Eurydice with the sickness and death of his bees, to the belief that a bee in the house meant a visitor would soon arrive. Beware; if you then kill the bee, the visitor will arrive bearing bad news, so let it buzz around unscathed! In Celtic mythology, the bee is a link between our world and the spirit world, and if a bee lands on your hand, money is on its way! One of the most well known superstitions is that of “telling the bees”. If a beekeeper has news – births, deaths, marriages etc – they have to tell their bees. If not then there could be a negative effect on the hive. The bees could leave, or die, or stop producing honey. In some cases, food and drink from the funeral is even left out for the bees. And don’t be rude to them - they do not like swearing or being yelled at! ⠀
It is believed that bees were first domesticated in ancient Egypt, where there are depictions of the beekeeping in art. However, there are is evidence of human beings collecting honey for many millennia before this. It seems we have always had a sweet tooth!⠀ #folklore#folklorethursday#mythology#history#historyisinourstories#culture#bee#historygram#heritage#localculture#oralhistory#localhistory#historylovers#bees#historyiseverywhere#historynerd#historygirls#myth#legend#worldhoneybeeday#justgoshoot#exploretocreate#visualsoflife#agameoftones#artofvisuals#liveauthentic#beekeeping#nat
"One of the oldest recorded hero journey tales - possibly predating Gilgamesh - is the Sumerian myth of the sky goddess Inanna's descent to the netherworld." -- Joseph Campbell, "Goddesses: Mysteries of the Feminine Divine"

I'm a day late on the #1weekoffavorites photo challenge! But here is my choice for a belated day 5. I chose the Fable games! Maybe this is cheating by having a shot of all three... and I tried to choose just one... but I really do love each one for different reasons. The first introduced the magical, folklore world of Albion, the second one you get your own dog to explore the world with 😁 and the third one allowed for more decision making and got a bit darker, PLUS Michael Fassbender did some voicing in Fable III and I do love that guy 😅 I really love the music in these game, the voices of the villagers, the gameplay, and feeling like I'm in an old magical England complete with mythical beings. Have you played the Fable games? Which is your favourite?

Све илустрације у књизи дело су нашег истакнутог графичара Николе Радосављевића.
The Selkie sea spell 🐚
Apart of me wonders if I have Selkie ancestors. I know crazy but whatever lol. Every time I hear this story I feel such love and sorrow as if these women are long lost sisters of mine. My heart goes out to them and their wild ocean souls. I created this piece with that in mind. A sort of communion with the selkies, to honour them and their wide open hearts. ♥️

A snapping turtle just after emerging from hibernating, buried in the mud. This is where the Native American legends of the Earth being brought into existence and carried on the shell of a turtle originated from.
Learned something new today from my neighbor while working in our garden. Leaning over our fence he asked “How do you tell a male bell pepper from a female bell pepper?” He told me that there are both male bell peppers and female bell peppers (I looked it up on the internet to confirm it was true and if you find it on the internet it must be true LOL). My neighbor went on tell me that there is a difference in how they look and what they are better used for. And said “Now you know how to tell a male bell pepper from a female bell pepper!” Did you know that there are two kinds of bell peppers?⠀
So How Do You Tell A Male Bell Pepper From A Female Bell Pepper ?⠀
The Female Bell Peppers and more round, they have 4 bumps on the bottom. They have more seeds on the inside and when eaten raw the female bell peppers are sweeter than the male bell peppers. So these are better for salads, veggie trays and sandwiches.⠀
The Male Bell Peppers are taller and thin, they only have 3 bumps. They are not as sweet but hold up better in heat and are better for cooking. These are perfect for stews, dips, and cooking.⠀
So next time you are in your garden or in the grocery store, flip over the peppers and see if your buying “boys or girls” 🙂 #myth ⠀
