This was my highest scoring print, and a couple of the judges even tried to talk it up to Gold! It just missed by a few points in the end.
I was shooting a wedding when this was being judged so I watched it on the livesteam replay later on. It was quite emotional listening to the discussion and to know that the photograph spoke so strongly to some of the judges.
This image was a very personal piece, created as a creative emotional outlet. I entered it because it is an image that is very dear to me and felt that I wanted to share it somewhere. I wasn’t concerned if it was awarded or not - I would have been quite happy for it to slip under the radar! It is something I made for me, so whilst watching the judging, to hear the judges completely get the story the story I was telling, was incredibly moving. I was glad I was watching at home, as there were a few tears shed!
A judge commented that it was a really gutsy piece showing the emotion that the person is going through, the feeling of being stuck with no sense of clarity. The judges felt it was cleverly done with the tormented cyan palette and the shiny finish of the print - a shiny exterior for what is quite a dark image underneath.
"Its just as hard to be BARBIE as it is to be KEN.." .
Something a bit different... I dont usually photography males.. but this was for a mini series I created to address the issue of #malebodypositivity
It's absolutely great that nowadays more and more people are accepting who they are, but I've noticed that the #bodypositivemovement still mainly addresses women and how they feel.
Men suffer just as much as we do with our appearance yet their feelings regarding the issue seem to be continuously forgotten. So here's to them. I see you. I know how you feel.. it is just as hard to be KEN as it is to be BARBIE!

We are getting some real Game of Thrones vibes from this epic image created by NZIPP Accredited Photographer @emmasteelphotography - don’t you think? 🗡
I’m finally doing this!!! I’ve had this in my head for years. I launched it this week and it’s going so well!!!! This is my first fundraiser for TJS WAY charitable trust. We set up the trust in 2008 after my sister died. She loved gymnastics so we thought - let’s set up a charity that pays for kids gymnastics fees.. we have helped so many families so far from kerikeri, Rangiora and Dunedin. It’s really helped my family work through our grief.
Anyways it’s my mums 60th birthday next year and I really want to be able to raise some $ for tjs way and gift her a beautiful book of images of all the children that helped support the trust. I’ve called these shoots “follow the yellow brick road” my sister loved the wizard of oz and I always think of her when I am photographing children on paths and in tree tunnels...
Anyways the fundraiser is awesome. Simply donate $49per child and you get a little shoot and your favourite photo as a print or a digital. Shoots can also be extended to include siblings and families too (at discounted pricing :) + 10% of that also goes to tjsway - I will pop a link in my profile, currently taking bookings for winter & spring... Rangiora, Christchurch and Dunedin. #chchphotographer#christchurchphotographer#rangioraphotographer#dunedinphotographer#nzipp#masterphotographer

This image, captured by the talented NZIPP Accredited Photographer @janyne_fletcher, received the incredible award of Gold with Distinction at the recent Iris Awards! How mysteriously beautiful is Middlemarch Cemetery, photographed from this unique perspective?

Such pretty colours, even in winter. Another gallery completed <3
GOLD! Iris awards, 2019. I thought gold was like an untouchable, unachievable, only-for-the-cool-kids kind of award, but ohmygoodness I got it! Thank you Josh and Sarah for being the best tour guides a person could want!
A big congratulations to the amazing @lisataylorphotos
Lisa’s first ever entry in the NZIPP (The New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography) Iris Awards- and we are so happy for Lisa ❤️ Lisa has won the Bronze Award for this photo she took of me.
Another shot from Thursday nights @nzipp_national InFocus 2018 Astrophotography Workshop as everyone was walking back to the bus with their head torches on. Big thanks also to @blairquax for bringing all the @nikonnz gear out for others to try.
