Burgundy Beef Pie With Mash & Gravy (SGD $13) @ Firebake.
A filling, carbohydrate heavy meal. Served with creamy thick mashed potatoes garnished with spring onions and meat gravy on the side.
The pie has a thick but crumbly pastry crust, giving way with a little effort when cut, revealing the large chunky pieces of braised beef and carrots within.
While the carrots are tender soft with mild vegetal earthy sweet flavour, I found the beef to be rather firm and stringy in texture. Could be more moist.
At least the flavour is properly meaty savoury salty on the palate. Felt this would have been more juicy if they used minced beef instead.

Recipe: 8 Servings 👇
1 kg potatoes⠀
80 g white rice flour (1/2 cup)⠀
40 g cornstarch or tapioca flour (1/3 cup)⠀
salt, pepper, nutmeg (to taste)⠀
250 g mushrooms, sliced (about 3 cups)⠀
1/2 of a zucchini, diced⠀
1 onion, chopped⠀
1 bell pepper, diced⠀
2 cloves of garlic, minced⠀
salt & pepper to taste⠀
spice mix: 1 tsp Italian spice blend, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp cumin, 1/4 red pepper flakes⠀
oil for frying⠀
vegan cheese to taste⠀
Peel potatoes, cut into small pieces and cook in salted water for about 20 minutes.⠀
Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg and mash them with a potato masher. (@elavegan suggest to not use a food processor, otherwise, the mashed potatoes will be sticky).⠀
Allow the mashed potatoes to cool (in the meantime you can prepare the filling), then add flour and cornstarch and mix well with a spoon or your hands.⠀
Chop the veggies, fry the onion in a pan with a little bit oil for about 3-4 minutes, add the mushrooms, garlic, and also the diced peppers and the zucchini. Sauté everything for a couple of minutes, season with salt, pepper, and the spice mix.⠀
Split the dough into 8 parts (about 1/2 cup or 120 g each). Form into balls, make a well in the middle and add about one and a half tablespoons of the filling. You can also add some vegan cheese in addition. Carefully "seal" the balls with a little bit more dough and flatten them slightly to make them look like thick pancakes.⠀
Heat approximately 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and fry the potato cakes at medium heat until golden brown on both sides. They will be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. If you want them to be slightly more crunchy, you can bake them additionally for about 20 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit in the oven.

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp dijon mustard
2 tsp honey
3 garlic cloves, minced (1 Tbsp)
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp dried rosemary (optional)
4 (8 oz) steaks*
In a mixing bowl whisk together balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, olive oil, dijon mustard, honey, garlic, pepper and rosemary until well blended.
Place steak in a gallon size resealable bag, place steak in gallon size resealable bag. Pour marinade over steaks, seal bag while pressing out excess air. Transfer to refrigerator and let marinate at least 30 minutes or up to 8 hours.

To Make Batter
Corn Flour - 1/4 Cup
Maida - 1/4 Cup
Salt - 1/4 Tsp
Chili Powder - 1 Tsp
To Make Sauce
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Chopped Garlic - 1 Tsp
Onion - 1 No. Chopped
Chopped Capsicum - 1/2 Cup
Soy Sauce - 1 Tsp
Red Chili Sauce - 1 Tbsp
Green Chili Sauce - 1 Tbsp
Tomato Ketchup - 2 Tbsp
Chili Powder - 1 Tsp
Vinegar - 2 Tsp
Pinch Of Salt
Cut the potato into small pieces
In a bowl, add cornflour, maida, salt, pepper powder, red chili powder and mix well
Add water gradually and mix well
Dip the potato pieces into the batter
Deep fry the potato pieces till they are golden brown in color and keep them aside
Heat a pan with some oil, add garlic and saute
Add onions, capsicum and saute
Add all the sauces, red chili powder, some water and bring it to a boil
Add cornflour slurry and mix well
Add the fried potato pieces and mix well
Garnish it with spring onion greens and serve it hot.

771. OMG, @lideylikes 's Potato Galette from Cook Like A Pro is so amahzing and simple it may become my staple side for every meal over the next year! It's potatoes done right - supremely crisp on all sides with a creamy center, just the right amount of salt and a sprinkling of fresh chives. DRROOOOL 🤤! I couldn't stop myself from going back for seconds, thirds, and fourths. The recipes says it serves 4, but let's pretend the pan feeds one so I don't feel bad about how much I devoured ...
