A small newel repair on part of this larger trim project. A portion of the rail detail had delaminated at some point in the 100+ year life of the building. I started with a block of similar species wood, gave it a rough shape to match the radius of the newel, and let the glue setup overnight. Once the glue had cured, I did the aggressive material removal with a grinder and sanding pad, and then refined the shape with an orbital sander before final sanding it by hand. You never know what fun you’ll get into. •

Patience is one virtue I am definitely lacking in. Given how many months we’ve been waiting for the path to be laid you’d think I could wait just another day until the grout smearing was mopped clean and the spare tiles were tidied out of shot before sharing on the grid. Better still I could have waited until the coping stones have been replaced, the gravel laid and all the paintwork sanded and redone. But no, patience is not my thing, so here is the not quite finished new path, complete with flaws and I absolutely LOVE it 🤩
The tiles are called Grosvenor from @toppstiles (not a gift!), all info on these and the rest of the front yard are on my highlights. We’d seen them online and loved them then realised Stacey at @end_of_the_row has the same ones and they looked so gorgeous we were sold! 💕
Well yesterday was pretty big for our little house, not least because Bobbins.at.no.18 reached a massive 10k milestone! It seems just bonkers that in the 7 months since I started my account that so many lovely people have followed along on our renovation journey. In this relatively short time I’ve made some amazing friendships and been amazed by how supportive and kind the insta community really is. Huge thanks to everyone who has liked and commented on my daily posts and especially to the little gang of faves I chat to daily via stories and dms 💕
In the real world it was also a great day for our house as @daddish_lad and I had an unexpectedly productive evening and spurred on by the glorious weather managed to get all the outdoor furniture built 🙌🏻 Today our joiner pal is setting about hanging the back gate and fitting all the trellis panels and then we’ll be 5 wall lights and a few metres of festoon lighting away from a finished back yard! Can’t wait to share it once the final pieces are in place... the before shots are quite something given most of the space was taken up by a workshop when we bought No. 18 🙈
In the meantime, here’s a totally unrelated post showcasing our boiler cupboard 🤣 It’s a pig of an angle to photograph- as you can probably tell by the reflections, this shot was taken through the shower screen 🤦🏼♀️ Anyway, you get the idea! The boiler cupboard of my dreams, that’s also home to our laundry baskets, bath products, loo rolls and L.B.’s bath toys. Swipe for a peek at what it look like this time last year 👉🏻 Happy bank holiday weekend all x
