Overheard @coltongiorgi talk about the discomfort this workout puts you in. It’s makes so many things in life that stress or tax your body feel like nothing. Being able to mentally sit in that state of physical discomfort is very empowering. At first it’s awful and your body fights it.. but I think there is some biology happening.. the body needs challenged and stressed to fully be functioning.. it will start to crave it. Maybe I am crazy.. But for some reason this painful hour of the day is what I look forward to most! 8 intervals - 250 meter row, 30 sec recover, 200 meter sprint..2 min recover.. x8. #motivation#fitness#fit#fitto50#workout#rowing#intervals@concept2inc@newbalance@crossfit760@mikemikeymikemike
What has Row House helped me achieve? Well, my gut is shrinking, I’ve moved two notches tighter on my belt, and my back no longer aches when I lift a bag of dog food. But frankly I don’t think that is what keeps me coming back. In addition to my own personal goals, I really look forward to seeing the familiar faces of my fellow “crewmates” when I walk through the door. There is always the feeling that we're all in it together. The “one boat” idea appeals to me, and getting in “swing” feels great. That is what keeps me coming back – the give-and-take among all of the people in the room. The shared energy is addictive. You find yourself pushing eagerly to reach those milestones, while also cheering for others to reach theirs.
What is my advice to anyone interested in rowing but also hesitant? Look, I’m no fitness junkie, I promise you. I certainly haven’t lived an active lifestyle. I’ve worked sitting down behind a computer screen 40 hours a week for 20 years. Perhaps you are a middle-aged couch potato like me, perhaps not. Either way, I’m telling you for the first time in decades of battling to get off my butt and stay in some kind of decent shape, I finally found something that I don’t have to DRAG myself to! I look forward to the next class! I miss rowing when I get too busy to go. Row House just works! Just. Try. It.”
Have you met our August Member of the Month, Case Ahr? He is an amazing combination of quiet strength and powerful energy. And the nicest guy you’d ever want to meet. We talked to him about how Row House has spoke to him over the last few months and here is what he said (part 1/2):
“I was really, really out of shape last year. Worst ever. I started dragging my sedentary ass to various fitness classes around town: cycling, climbing, boot camp etc. When I heard about the upcoming launch of Row House last November, I decided to sign up right away. I took my first class when it opened in January, and in my mind I was thinking I’d probably drop after a month or two. That was almost 8 months ago. Now completely hooked, I am in the studio almost every day of the week.
It was the coaching that really pulled me in initially. The first time Michelle called me out individually during class (something about not “beating her to the catch”) I was like — Whoa! Even if I sit in the back row of a dark studio, the coach can still check in on my progress. Not only in the mirror, but also on-screen right in front of her next to my name! I can’t tell you how much that recognition boosted the level of motivation and drive I felt and often lack. Less than a month later, Coach Mel coaxed me up to the front row — out of hiding, so to speak. Inspiration and encouragement from the Row House coaches is a powerful force — worth so, so much.”
Today’s the day folks. Johan is off to Row for Harvard University. It’s been quite a journey to say the least. One with adversity, tough decisions and unrelenting determination. Straight Alpha.
We’ve been working with Johan for 2 years on his journey to the Ivy League. Johan has shown extreme dedication to his craft through countless hours on the water, Erg and weight room. This young man made it his top priority to get the attention of the Crimson. Today, he leaves to start his new rowing journey.
Congratulations on all your hard work Johan. Everyone at IPC is extremely proud of your accomplishments. We wish you all the best at Harvard University. Keep Hustlin’

#wearegrowing#dangerousblonde#rowing#panam#2023 ?
