Plastic Ocean 💧
Knowing that in a lot of Asian countries the trash gets dumped on the street (ending up in the ocean), we wanted to minimize our use of plastic in Sri Lanka.
Geared with our own water bottles, a tupperware box, bamboo cuttlery and bamboo straws we made an agreement: for every plastic straw we got we would have to pay 10 cents, every plastic bottle 1 frank, plastic bag 1 frank, plastic cups 1 frank and using the small complimentary cosmetics in the hotel also 1 frank (using this encourages the hotel to keep on giving them, but refillable containers are more sustainable!). At the end of our trip we had collected 17.8 francs which came mostly from plastic straws (waiters kept bringing them even though we asked not to). We ended up not using any plastic bottle. Filling up our own water bottles was very easy in Sri Lanka, all the places we stayed at were happy to fill up our bottles with filtered water. .
With the money we have collected we want to support @4ocean . An organization that collects plastic out of the ocean and makes bracelets from it. For every bracelet you buy, they collect 1 pound of plastic out of the ocean. .
Especially at the end of our trip we noticed how necessary this really is. While surfing, we saw and felt plastic on our legs in the water all the time. Therefore: say no to plastic! ❌
❰ WILDLIFE ❱ There’s so much beauty in observing elephants from a distance in their natural habitat, they’re like humans, highly intelligent, and are able to express their unique personalities when they are roaming free in the wild! #wearepangaea .
📷 // @hiddentravellers // National Parks are the best place to encounter wildlife in their most natural behaviours, they are free from any restraints and human interaction. It’s important to remember that elephants are wild animals so wherever you travel to and we must respect that.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
➽ Udawalawe National Park in Sri Lanka is famous for its large population of elephants, you can see herds of up to a hundred elephants wandering about. Watching them in silence, from a distance will surely be one of the most memorable experiences you’ll take with you forever.
