I come from a long line of teachers in my family, and while cleaning out my Grandparent’s house, my Mom and I found these pictures of a photo shoot we must have done when I was little where I tried on all of my Grandma’s ‘teacher dresses’ that she wore when she would walk to her one room school house. Note all of the classic teacher poses 🙈 You might recognize that the last dress I ‘modeled’ I’m wearing in a picture from my first year of teaching, 5 years ago. I now have all of my Grandma’s beautiful dresses and get to wear them to my school. I love wearing clothes from someone I love. When I wear her dresses, all day I remember how lucky I am that my Grandma was such a good teacher, who taught my Mom to be such a good teacher, who taught me to hopefully do the same. .
I find myself reminding my students of all the great skills math helps them practice for the real world! I created this bulletin board so that they will see it everyday!
🌳Cojín de tronco. Me encantan!
You can not please both God and man! .
If there is one thing I’m learning about Ministry and the Gospel... it’s that it OFFENDS people! .
I was called a Bible thumper for the first time today. I started looking around like “who? Me?” 😂😆 I was attacked with the very same words I used to attack other Christians with when I just simply did not understand the scripture. You see , without the Holy Spirit the Bible is just another book. I had to have some God intervened assistance in understanding what I was reading!! .
However, I will proclaim the Truth. Just like Jeremiah , like Isaiah, like Paul. Like all of the great prophets, teachers, and examples we are given in the Bible. I will speak the words the Lord gives me despite who it may offend . .
“Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

This is my #1 piece of advice for new teachers - spend time getting to know your kids and put the most of your energy into making them feel seen and cared for. Students who feel happy, safe and secure at school will be the ones who are most able to engage in the learning process.
I had a student with high-functioning autism in my class this year, and from September to December, he was very unhappy. He had a lot of angry outbursts, often swearing and threatening violence towards himself. Part of it had to do with the situation we were all in with another student in the class who triggered him, but part of it was me - I hadn’t figured him out yet. I tried everything I could think of that had worked in the past, but he continued to be very angry and non-compliant. This also meant he was making no academic gains. And I felt like a failure.
And then after winter break, another student brought in a puppet he had got on vacation, and this kid was instantly hooked. He started making his own puppets out of paper and any materials he found in the room, and couldn’t get enough of watching Kermit videos on YouTube. So I watched. And I listened. And I talked to him. And I put aside the priority of academic learning. Because he was happy for the first time.
I started bringing in felt and thread and I taught him how to hand sew. He was a NATURAL. I put some materials together to make a sewing kit for him, and everything changed - school was a positive place. We watched tutorials and together made a Kermit puppet that was his pride and joy - it never left his hand. He would take it around to perform shows for the K classes, and even slept with it! He started to say things like “I’m going to be a puppeteer when I grow up”, and my heart could have BURST.
My kids were incredible through the whole thing, they took it very seriously and were so supportive and complimentary, even asking him to teach them how to sew. I was getting through to him academically by incorporating Kermit into everything. And he was SO HAPPY.
Moral of the story is - some kids need something totally outside of the box. And it was one of my proudest moments to figure out his ❤️

E hoje, macete!!!

Since this month marked the 3 year anniversary of when I decided to give this coaching thing a shot I have been reflecting recently and I have realized that the last few years have been a rollercoaster ride.
Looking back at these pictures, I don’t even recognize the girl on the left.
Sophomore year of college was a rough one for me, and I took solace in food. My nightly decision was whether I wanted fries or a frosty.
I had gained the Freshman 15, and the Sophomore 20, and realized that I could not continue down the road I was on. Junior year of college, I decided I needed a change.
I simply began eating healthier and lost my first 17 pounds, then I decided to give Zumba and Kickboxing a try & lost another 20. To this point, I had never found anything that I was able to sustain for more than a few months.
Although I have gained and lost a few pounds here or there, I decided to go ALL IN for my wedding in 2016, I have to say that I have never felt better and more confident in myself, and more positive about the direction my life is headed.
Being a teacher, my passion has always been for helping people. I am a teacher by day, but during my free pockets of time, I decided to help others in a different way. I felt that I had finally found something that had worked for me...why wouldn't I share it with others?
The best part about coaching is we are all so UNIQUE, and come from so many different backgrounds and we are from various countries all around the world, but we do all have ONE thing in common - we LOVE what we are doing, and we want to help others by sharing what we LOVE!
We are no different than any of you - we just made the one seemingly small decision to say YES to giving this coaching thing a try, and wow has it changed many of our lives for the better.
Life ain't always beautiful. Sometimes it's just plain hard. Life can knock you down. It can break your heart. But the struggles make you stronger. And the changes make you wise. And happiness has its own way of taking its own sweet time. No, life ain't always beautiful. Tears will fall sometimes. Life ain't always beautiful. But it's a beautiful ride.

“Hogwarts wasn’t hiring so I teach muggles instead.” A student gave me this #gryffindor coaster last week and I was so touched. This year, when I set up my classroom I wanted my classroom to show my personality and passions: Harry Potter, travel, science, plants, animals, and the color blue. More than a theme, I wanted to show students about me and connect with them. From the first day of school, one of my students has been decked out in Harry Potter from head to toe (Gryffindor high top sneakers exist and yes you need them STAT 🤣). I even befriended a slytherin student, but she promised me she wasn’t friends with Draco Malfoy. Phew! What Harry Potter house are you? How do you display your personality in your classroom?
