You may have heard about the 4% rule in retirement.
$1,000,000 isn’t really a million for you to enjoy. It means, in retirement, you can assume safely taking out 4% per year, withdrawing $40,000 per year, without worrying about running out of money in the long run.
(This is a steady 40k/year that doesn’t increase)
Now, assume that you have tenants in Real Estate you own, paying you rent each month, and that rental income after your expenses equals $40,000 per year.
(This number increases over time because historically rental cost increases, rather than staying steady)
So now let’s evaluate which path is easier for you to obtain.
