Over the weekend Rich and his dad built another reclaimed table similar to this one he made for us in Joshua Tree a few years back. 🌵✨ For the one pictured we used wood that had been lining our hallway walls. This time, we found old wood that used to be under a dance floor in Tucson (reclaimed from @originatenaturalbuilding). Excited to show you what they created together for one of the casitas at @jthposada—we love how these handmade reclaimed tables bring so much life to a room (and are extra special since they’re made with love by Rich’s dad). 🌞✨ #thejoshuatreehacienda

One of the design mantras we live by is designing a home that enhances with use—this often means using natural materials. Finding a sofa for the main shared living room was no different, and so we searched for a sofa in a material that would withstand a lot of use, and something we wouldn’t be afraid to live life with. Some of the most special moments can be accompanied by spilled drinks, and to us that’s just a sign that life was there. @sixpennyhome checked all of the boxes for designing for living with a thick canvas slip covered sofa that we can dry clean, or even swap out for a different color over time. We’re in love, and couldn’t recommend this sofa more.🧡 #sixpennyhome (photo by @margaretaustin_photo)

Walking in the clouds.
Captivating image from @tanzim31 Solitude is painful when one is young, but delightful when one is more mature.
Step 1: Buy prints and art, on every trip. Make it your souvenir. Grab concert posters (coffee shops are great places to find these)
For some modern additions, check out Juniper Print Shop. I am a huge fan of their prints and the quality is amazing.
Step 2: Frame said art with Target and Michael’s frames. Also Framebridge is great for a high quality, easy option. Some larger size prints can be matted and put into a pre-made frame. Look for stores that can make a mat on the spot.
Step 3: If you know you need help, go get it. I sure did and my husband was zero help. The thought of putting a nail into the wall makes him physically ill. Erin of @sunnycirclestudio is a pro at arranging the balance of color, styles, graphic vs photography etc. She added details like framed sheet music that made it even more unique and special.
Step 4: Dig in and start. Contact strips like Jenny Komenda recommends would be easier than nailing a bunch of holes in the wall.
Step 5: Admire your beautiful wall! This one is in our NOLA Happy Retreat in New Orleans. You can rent it and come see for yourself- Link in bio for more info.

I’ve been having so much fun photoshopping ideas for the new cabin. Being a designer/art director in my day job I feel super fortunate to be able to quickly comp up design ideas to find out whether I love or hate them. Excited to get up to the new cabin this weekend to start executing on a couple of these ideas. First up: Fireplace and kitchen cabinet painting 🤗
Fully furnished three bedroom cabin only 90 miles from Manhattan in the NE Pocono lake region. The house is situated in the woods, at the edge of a private lake community with access to docks, beach, and fishing (with PA permit of course). It's only a 15 min drive from Lake Wallenpaupack, and around the area you can find skiing, hiking, tubing, waterfalls, state forests, antique stores, farm stands, local markets, and Woodloch resort and spa.
The cabin rests on a one-acre lot on the edge of the Paupacken lake community, looking out over dense woods (there are other cottages within view of mine, but the neighbors keep to themselves and in the summer the leaves are so full you almost don't see them at all). It's packed full of soaring trees, boulders, and streams--and also cardinals, turkeys, foxes, and lots of deer who often laze around in the yard : ) A fire pit and a wraparound deck with outdoor seating and grill complete the outdoor experience.Inside, the fire place fills the cabin with coziness and warmth. Features and amenities include ceiling fans, electric baseboard heaters in every room, Internet/Wi-Fi, record player with record collection, board games, ping-pong table, fully stocked kitchen, linens and towels, pre-packed beach bag, beach towels, lawn chairs, comfortable beds, and modern furniture. The space is well-suited for a couple, a small family, or a few friends. The master loft has a queen-size bed and the 2 main floor bedrooms have 4 sets of sturdy, comfortable twin bunk beds.
