👄 Oral Ulcers (Ulser Mulut) 👄
📝 What is Oral Ulcer?
Painful inflammation of animal's mouth which involve the lips, tongue, gums and back of the throat.
👀 How will I know my pet has oral ulcer?
Ulcers are painful, your pets may refuse to eat or tried to eat but food will start dropping due to pain when food touches the ulcers. Other signs may include, drooling (sometines with blood, unkempt hair coat (painful to move the tongue), bad breath, weight loss and mouth pawing.
🧐 How will my vet diagnose oral ulcer?
Your vet will need to examine your pet's mouth. This can be difficult because the pet is already in pain and some vets may recommend sedation for complete examination of the oral cavity.
❓Will my pet recover from oral ulcer?
Yes and No. Most oral ulcers are associated with other underlying diseases. You will need few revisits after the first visit with your vet to fully tackle the problems and together achieving happy pain free pets.

Steve the dog has an operation today and would love all your well wishes and positive vibes. 🙏 He is not a massive fan of the vet so I think it's safe to say this will not be the highlight of his year....😔
He is getting a growth removed from inside his top lip, so unfortunately that means no more catching balls for a while until it heals up...the extra sympathy walks on the beach and in the forest should make up for that though! 🤣
Steve is 15 years old so he's been a part of our family my entire adult life and it's so strange and sad to think that one day he won't be here (hopefully that's a good few years away yet though). We treat Steve with the same love and respect as we show one another, he is not a pet to us but a valued member of our family. .

Food Elimination Diet Trials (part 2)
Read my previous post on the topic first if you haven’t already!
The Food Elimination Trial is to identify if your pet has an allergy (most commonly to a protein or grain) that can contribute to a myriad of chronic skin and gut problems.
It involves feeding a novel source of protein (something your pet hasn’t eaten before, hence their immune system will not have been activated by this protein) plus a carbohydrate source (a non-starchy vegetable) and NOTHING else for 8 weeks.
By nothing this means no treats, no flavoured medications, no supplements, nada!
Meats that can be sourced fresh around Perth include Goat, Emu, Venison, Alpaca, Buffalo and Crocodile from @petmeatco and @boyandbearpetsuppliesperth
Vegetable sources can be anything except for corn so best to pick something your pet will eat that is easily prepared.
If your pet accidentally (on purpose!) eats even a crumb of something they shouldn’t have, you need to go back to day zero. So it may take a few attempts!
There are commercial diets available, however using a fresh, preservative-free meat is ALWAYS better for your pet and is considered the gold standard for the trial.
It's also worth mentioning that pets may be sensitive to beef in the form of a beef flavoured kibble but will be totally fine on some fresh beef. This is due to the high heat and high pressure processing required for kibble which can alter the amino acid structure of the proteins. Hence they're unrecognizable to the body and can trigger an immune response.
If going fresh isn’t an option, the SPD (single protein diet) rolls are the best.
Don’t bother with any dry food labelled “hypoallergenic” because most dried foods have storage dust mites which commonly cause allergies.
Also most commercial foods will contain a preservative, additive or colourant which might also be causing a problem.
After that we go through a series of “challenges” to identify any causative agents, which I will discuss in a future post.
Who’s going to join in on the 8 week challenge?

My sweet and perfect June... some companion animals hate going to the vet, but not this lady. She sun bathes in the passenger seat on the way there. Looks curiously at the passing trees and pups with happy tongues hanging out of car windows. Despite feeling icky, she still preens on the exam table while waiting for the doctor. She asks good questions and expresses gratitude for the treats the vet techs love to spoil their chicken patients with. She lets others handle her with ease. She really is so brave. I just wish she could stay healthy. Her crop hasn’t been passing fully the last couple days. Diagnostics lead to a likely cause and she’s home on antibiotics. Alexa is doing a good job of keeping her active and distracted from feeling blah. Thankfully, we were able to afford this unexpected trip to the doctor. However, her care credit is still maxxed out from being so sick over the winter and funds are still tight. A link to her old fundraiser is still in the bio, if you feel like helping us out. Grateful to have some answers this time around, though it’s likely that what she has will affect her for life and flare up on occasion, meaning further care will likely be necessary in the future. Cue perma anxiety... Loving Cornishes this much comes with its ups and downs. I can’t remember what life was like before this floofy goof anymore. Please, put out all the healing vibes to the universe for my girl ❤️🐔❤️ thank you. #junebug#vetvisit#bravebird#rescuehen#kaporosbaby#cornishcross#friendnotfood#loveallanimals
1st trip to the vet since I got her. She has something called cherry eye and is getting steroid eye drops. Hopefully it clears up quick. #havanese#puppylife#vetvisit

CAH's TIPS TO KEEP YOUR SENIOR CAT HAPPY & HEALTHY! #5 Enrichment: Keep your cat active with toys and lots of interaction. Maintaining muscle mass, keeping weight in a healthy range and keeping your cat engaged can increase the quality and length of your cat’s life. For many cats a simple box or paper bag can provide hours of exercise and entertainment, or at least a new place to take a nap. Consider offering cat toys, cat nip, cat furniture or a scratching post. Blow bubbles for them to chase or put a bird feeder outside their favorite window. Be sure to spend time with your cat every day doing the activities you both enjoy! #cahcathealth
