🗝🥀 VIRGINITY 🥀🗝
A glimpse in my sketchbook at a recent piece inspired by the classic fairytale Bluebeard. Bluebeard also influenced my newest poem, Insignificant, that you can watch me perform on my YouTube channel (link in bio 🔗) ~
In preparation for my next uni module I’ve been reading a lot of fairytales. Most of which - including Bluebeard - are packed with loads of sexual symbolism. Bluebeard in particular has very heavy themes of virginity - primarily regarding female virginity.
As a woman, virginity is a complicated concept. It’s tied up in fear, physical pain, overwhelming emotions and a long history. From the pure, innocent bride all dressed in white to the sinful prostitute to the old spinster; there are a lot of intimidating images attached to losing your virginity. Then there’s the added slut-shaming, prude-shaming and the dismissal of female-female sex as “not real sex”. Overall, losing your virginity can be a scary thing. ~
Of course, it can also be a very nice thing to share with someone - whether you’re in love with them or not. However, for a lot of women (and I’m sure men and non-binary people too) losing your virginity is a difficult experience. But you can work through that experience and come to terms with any negative and overwhelming feelings through open and honest conversations with loved ones, counsellors or therapists as well as through art, writing and other forms of creativity. For me, this drawing and the corresponding poem are part of that process 👩🏼🎨
Hice esto hace como un mes y olvide postearlo pero me gustó mucho como quedó! Por las flores en la cabeza sentí que parecía una diosa del mar asi que dibuje peces!! #drawthisinyourstyle <3 -•-•-•- I did this like a month ago and forgot to post it but I liked how it turned out!! Because of the flowers on her head I felt like she was some "sea goddess" so I added fish!! @chelseagracei
I got 2 adopts from @warblurthewarcritter the other day, this is the first one. His name is Smudge and he is a collie cross sheltie. I'm really looking forward to drawing more of him and adding him into my story 😊
Dear Mama Monkey,
I should apologize to you in the name of human. Feel sorry for your baby. I found your picture holding your dead baby and that hurts me. I love animal, but you must understand that human often forget that we shared this land with many creatures.
Human turns earth into rubbish and damage it altough we are the smartest creature on earth.
Just forgive us, crying out loud, and tell God what happen. Tell Him that human is useless.

Back from my very busy Scottish family holiday! I've not been able to sketch a lot. Started something and had to leave it half way through... And I have been looking forward to some alone time! Although not so much alone, I did finally get some time to sit down and complete my sketch this morning when my kids were watching the "snow queen" from cbeebies(on one of the warmest days in August! Guess they've had enough summer🤣)
This sketch of a lovely scottish landscape is completed using a fountain pen and some watercolour pencils and a brush pen. My sketchbook is usually only pen. But I'm missing my favourite medium, watercolours. I really enjoyed watching how the colours and the ink blend. Completely different style to my usual watercolour sketches. But I seem to like it. What do you think?
