It’s been a whirlwind of a week. Quit one job, moved across the state, and started a new job. The last 5 days have been great getting to know new people, learn new things, and explore this new city with Colin. It’s a whole lot of “new”, but I’m loving it. Now ready for the weekend to see more of the amazing Grand Rapids area.

The mom, Elaine (I know I’ll never consider her my mom so I’ve decided it’s best for our professional relationship that I get on a first name basis with her) Anyway, Elaine decided that it might be good for me if there was another place in the house where the two of us could sit quietly and bond. She’s accustomed to all the pets fawning over her like idiots so I’ve thrown the poor woman for quite the loop!
The room she thinks is ideal is what she’s calling the sun room, although with the heavy winter curtains, I don’t see the sun. This is also where the family gathers at Christmas and being so busy attending to me, they haven’t undecorated yet. So Elaine decides that step one is to reorganize the attic so the boxes of Christmas stuff can be put away neatly.
So she’s up there for like an hour and none of the humans are home when all of a sudden there’s this huge crash, the feathered snacks are flying around in circles, the block head is pacing around barking and although I personally saw no reason to leave my den of extreme comfort to see these events unfold first hand, I found out later, Elaine broke the house.
She was almost finished organizing the attic when she lost her footing and fell part way into the downstairs of the suburban domicile. Needless to say, with her injuries and the dad’s extensive to-do list, it should be at least a few more days before Elaine can drag me to the sunroom.

So with the bad things coming at us in threes, yesterday was nerve wracking. See the vacuum was actually the second problem and the almost collision would have been the third. The surprise indoor pool was the real third and Grammy and PawPaw selfishly consider that to be the “major problem”. They’re all “OMG call Farmers, go get a pump from the Home Depot, spend 12 hours draining the floofin house, oh no! Will there be mold, blah blah blah”. •
They are all but ignoring the actual number 1 big problem... my teenage mom’s iPhone is no longer functioning. It says it has no microphone driver. And that means she can’t make phone calls (admittedly not a huge issue and since mono she’s not FaceTiming stoopid boys or posting videos) but also iMessage isn’t working. So she can’t text anyone with an iPhone, which is basically everyone, duh! Actually she can text out but not receive. She can only get text messages not iMessages but other people (looking at you, Grammy!) can only figure out how to send text when iMessage fails. And she can’t tell Siri to turn off her bedroom lights which means she disturbs my slumber to get out of bed and walk across the room to flip a light switch like some kind of peasant! And obviously she can’t text or call Grammy to ask her to do it. SIGH! For a short time yesterday we had a blackout in the den. PawPaw was too chicken to go in the new pool with the electricity on. So my fountain water stopped flowing and that made me really sad... it’s like they don’t even care about me 😿 •
