12. - 16. Januar 2020 Gestärkt ins neue Jahr im Kubatzki Hotel in St. Peter Ording
Recently, my days have sometimes started before I even get out of bed. There are texts/calls/emails waiting to be answered. I am knee deep in projects before I even get downstairs to make myself coffee. I am finishing up task one or task two by the time I remember to eat breakfast. This continues all day, until suddenly it is somehow five or seven o’clock and I wonder where the day went. There are still things I didn’t get to, waiting for me tomorrow. I wonder how it got this way, how I got so busy. I somehow carve out a little bit of yoga time here, a little bit of meditation there. At the end of the day, I want to do something fun like knit/read/take a bath/exercise, but I’m too tired. I’m sure many of you can relate. I am aware that this current cycle of busy will pass, but when I am in it sometimes I really just have to remind myself to take a deep breath. And take another one. Mindfulness in the midst of life is the real practice, and not one I have always succeeded at. Right now, it’s going better than it sometimes has in the past. I remember most days to take little breaks. I definitely don’t beat myself up as much as I used to about being ‘bad’ at it. It’s a practice. I’m practicing. That’s all. .
♀️ Inyectar disciplina, responsabilidad y orden a tu vida.
Today’s mindful focus was GRATITUDE 🙏🏼 In a thoughtful meditation we put our hands on our hearts and reflected on what we are thankful for ✨ Some were thankful for their parents, a little boy thankful for his girlfriend 🙈😂 while another girl was thankful for her legs that let her run and move 🏃♀️ Then we danced and played and decided to take a trip through the jungle finding super fun and flexi poses along the way 🐯🐵🦁 #mindfulmonkeys#yoga#loveyoga#kidsyoga#mindfulnessforkids#meditation#gratitude#yamas#niyamas#holidayclub

- 📍In a recent 2018 study looking at three different variations of the curl (barbell curl, EZ bar curl and dumbbell curl) looked at the muscle activation of the bicep brachii and the brachioradialis muscle in each of the variations.
📍In this study, they did 10 reps at 65% of their 1 RM and looked at the concentric and eccentric. They were standing and they had a metronome set so they did 3 seconds a rep. They observed the subject’s trunk muscles and knees to make sure they were cheating on these reps.
During the EZ bar curl and the barbell curl, they found that the bicep brachii and brachioradilais muscle had a significantly higher activation than the dumbbell curl. The barbell curl had a slightly lower activation compared to the EZ bar curl but it was not significant.
The concentric phase of the lift had a greater activation in general while the eccentric phase had a lower activation overall. The EZ bar curl was most effective at activating the bicep brachii and brachioradilis. The reason this may be for the high activation could be due to the almost semisproned grip.
During the EZ curl and barbell curl, the bicep brachii had a higher activation than the dumbbell curl. The brachioradilails was only higher in the EZ bar curl compared to the dumbbell curl. The barbell curl was not significantly different.
📍The EZ curl and the barbell curl have very slight differences, so it may just end up being a matter of comfort as to which one you choose.
📍One exercise is not necessarily better than the other, but if you’re looking for more activation out of these muscles you may benefit from choosing the EZ bar curl.

I have found when I am listening to my body and honouring whatever it wants, I can easily fall into the trap of ‘oh it just needs more rest’ or ‘just one more day off’, and the more it goes on the harder it is to get back into it ... I’m pretty sure it’s not just me that can feel like this!
Creating a habit is hard, there is no doubt about it, but keeping it when you are also trying to honour your body can be quite difficult too.
So, I have this little rule for myself, where I don’t have more than 1 day off in a row (I normally only have 1 day off a week)… BUT it’s not as harsh or strict as that first sounds.
I don’t have any rules with what I actually do on my mat. If my body is truly tired then I will do yin or even just 5 minutes of stretching, the discipline comes with getting on the actual mat everyday regardless.
9/10 when I get on my mat, I do actually have the energy to do a nice long yoga session or workout!
I have had my little way for about a year and I have found it works really well with both keeping up the habit and discipline, but also really honouring whatever it is my body needs.
Have you ever thought about this? And what do you have in place to balance out discipline with listening to your body?
Our yoga for recovery class is on every Thursday 7.30-8.30pm.
In yoga we learn to commit to a pose, we are also asked to remain present in often uncomfortable sensations for mind and body. Learning how to remain present and working through the discomfort of addictive behaviors can help many people break free of them.
This class is by donation no matter how big or small. For more details please feel free to get in touch.

So often people tell us that they can’t float because they can’t “think of nothing” for an entire hour. Underlying this sentiment is a subconscious belief that our worrying is the glue that is holding our world together. Even though we know if makes no sense, on some level, many of us believe that the energy we put into worrying about the worst case scenario is actually what prevents it from happening. Of course, we know that this isn’t so. Worrying about the future does very little except to rob ourselves of the gift that is the present moment. This is the amazing lesson we learn from meditation - the time we spend being fully immersed in the moment prepares us to create the future we want, whereas fixating on the future does not. Ready to try it for yourself? Book online or give us a call at 403 460-2705. 💙

yama niyama asana pranayama pratyahara dharana dhyana samadhi ashtau angani yama - codes of restraint
niyama - observances, practices
asana - meditation posture (from the root “as,” which means "to sit”)
pranayama - expansion of breath and prana
pratyahara - withdrawal of the senses
dharana - concentration
dhyana - meditation
samadhi - meditation in its higher state, deep absorption of meditation
ashtau - eight
angani - rungs; limbs
This yoga sutra translates from Sanskrit to mean, “The eight rungs, limbs, or steps of Yoga are the codes of self-regulation or restraint (yamas), observances or practices of self-training (niyamas), postures (asana), expansion of breath and prana (pranayama), withdrawal of the senses (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana), and perfected concentration (samadhi).” This yoga sutra is the first one which introduces the names and meanings of all eight limbs of yoga. It can be said that the yogi must go through all of the limbs prior to reaching samadhi, a deeper state of meditation and a oneness with the universe. Which of the 8 limbs of yoga are you must interested in learning more about? #yoga#yogaposes#8limbsofyoga#yogateacher#handstand#yogaphilosophy#yogasutras#yogasutrasofpatanjali#focus#fitnessgirl#thesweatlife#yogaeverydamnday#fitnessmotivation#lululemonleggings@lululemon@scottsdalequarter
ARE YOU AT THE TOP MOST OF THE TIME? 👇
A little anxiety is normal, good for us.
To push us that little bit more, that extra boost of adrenaline to get you to the deadline.
🙏BUT constantly pushing your limits will switch this stress response on with no rest to turn it back down again. Exhausted AND experiencing anxiety can leave you not knowing how to help yourself.
First thing is bringing a calm to your body & then the mind.
Using tools like
Muscle relaxation techniques
Any calm activity
All to send a message to your mind & body 'it's ok we are calming, there is no danger/stress you can switch off our stress response.'
*this is a process & obviously easier said than done. However actions speak louder than words, our action are the ones we choose. The only way to know anything is through practice, support, self compassion.🤗
in this case the cause of stress is giving too much. MORE than you can give.
It's time to look at your boundaries, & this for many people will be the first time you have even questioned that you have a choice in the matter. Boundaries are when we acknowledge what our needs are & if doing that action or behaviour will compromise your needs, compromise what's ok for you. Everyone is different & it's perfectly ok for you to decide where to draw the line. Once you know where to draw the line, now it's about learning & practicing to say no thank you. Sometimes you have to say it once. Sometimes people will keep asking & thats fine, you just keep letting them know that YOU have decided what's good for you. Sometimes this feels very strange for a while as you may have never been shown boundaries or have had yours pushed since you were small, that's ok it's never too late to learn!🤗
Always polite, you don't have to raise your voice, you are not defending yourself here. There is no fight. You've decided & that's that!
Once you begin getting to know what's good for you, the stress reduces🙏
